A Group 1 double at the weekend has catapulted WRITTEN TYCOON to the top of this season’s sire rankings.
PIPPIE’s second Group 1 scalp in Friday night’s Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley supplied the first leg of the double, followed by OLE KIRK’s triumph in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Two other winners on Saturday, including a stakes winner in Perth, capped an outstanding 24 hours of results for the son of IGLESIA.
Now a headline act of Arrowfield Stud’s stallion roster, WRITTEN TYCOON has certainly earned his stripes in the breeding barn. His introductory fee of $6,600 back in 2009 has since grown exponentially to a peak of $110,000.
Latest statistics on the 2020-21 season show WRITTEN TYCOON at number 1 in the general sires category based on prizemoney and stakes winners. He is also atop the 3yo sire standings.
Proven Thoroughbreds currently has one available horse by WRITTEN TYCOON – a filly out of ENCOSTA DE LAGO mare DIVA DEE.
Coincidentally, this filly was bred at the same nursery as PIPPIE – Eureka Stud, and the team there have remarked how similar the two are (see tweet below from back in May).
