A fruitful week for ZOUSTAR has elevated the son of NORTHERN METEOR to third on this season’s sire rankings by stakes wins.
A black type treble between Wednesday and Saturday increased ZOUSTAR’s tally of stakes wins for 2020-21 to 6, a figure bettered only by WRITTEN TYCOON (8) and I AM INVINCIBLE (8).
One thing that is starkly apparent when assessing ZOUSTAR’s 16 individual stakes winners to date, is that 12 hail from his first crop! (SUNLIGHT, ZOUTORI, HAUT BRION HER, MADAME ROUGE, ZOUSAIN, MIZZY, LEAN MEAN MACHINE, ARAMANI, TOP KNIGHT, PERSUADER, ZOUSTYLE & SOLAR STAR).
Subsequent crops (2016, 2017 & 2018) have managed only 4 stakes winners – not withstanding the fact that his 2018 crop have only just turned two.
But a sire who starts his stud career in such an explosive way, highlighted by a trifecta in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m), is sure to bounce back in a big way.
And judging by the first 10 or so weeks of the 2020-21 season, ZOUSTAR is certainly making his presence felt again.
