Second season sire VANCOUVER snared his first Australian stakes winner on Saturday, continuing on his upward trajectory through the stallion ranks.
Proven Thoroughbreds has long been bullish about VANCOUVER’s prospects as a sire (read article HERE) and recent results would indicate he is trending the right way.
His first official stakes winner came in the shape of MOUNT PLEASANT, who prevailed in an 1100m juvenile contest in South Africa two months ago.
Then at Moonee Valley on Saturday, his daughter NIGHT RAID was an impressive winner of the Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m), prompting bookmakers to install her second favourite for next month’s Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m).
24 hours later VANCOUVER produced his first northern hemisphere stakes winner courtesy of MADONE in a mile juvenile fillies race at Del Mar, California.
Proven acquired three of VANCOUVER’s progeny this year in the expectation his value would rise over the ensuing 12-18 months. With VANCOUVER meeting those expectations to date, two of the three purchased yearlings are now sold with only 10% left in the VANCOUVER x KICKER filly with Steve O’Dea.
Meanwhile ZOUSTAR added another feather in his cap when his son TOP KNIGHT won Sunday’s Group 1 Singapore Derby, becoming the 14th stakes winner for Widden Stud’s champion sire.
Proven has shares left in a colt and filly by ZOUSTAR and both are Magic Millions eligible.
