No current stallion in Australia has made a bigger impression with their first two crops than this exciting young sire.

Two years ago, BETTER THAN READY wouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath as SNITZEL, I AM INVINCIBLE or EXCEED AND EXCEL but his record of producing 2YO winners now makes him part of that conversation (see table from Breednet below).

 SIRE YEAR 1 CROP 1 2YO WINNERS CROP 2 2YO WINNERS TOTAL 2020 FEE
BETTER THAN READY 2019 23 17 40 $33,000
DEEP FIELD 2019 21 16 37 $55,000
I AM INVINCIBLE 2014 15 20 35 $209,000
EXCEED AND EXCEL 2008 13 19 32 $132,000
SPIRIT OF BOOM 2018 18 12 30 $44,000
ALL TOO HARD 2017 10 13 23 $27,500
SNITZEL 2010 10 12 22 $165,000
RUBICK 2019 15 6 21 $33,000
FASTNET ROCK 2009 12 8 20 $165,000

BETTER THAN READY’s 23 first crop winners won 38 races, which was more than both SNITZEL and I AM INVINCIBLE, and came from just 47 runners bred from a $9,900 fee.

Not surprisingly, his service fee more than tripled last year and one would expect another increase if his results continue through the 2020-21 season.

The early signs are promising with a double last Saturday, including the impressive EELLOH at Doomben.

So the question is…how much will you have to pay for a BETTER THAN READY yearling next year?

It’s unlikely you will jag one for $36,000 – the price Proven Thoroughbreds paid for the filly from HANAAN (HIGH CHAPARRAL) at the March QTIS Sale.

The other BETTER THAN READY yearling Proven acquired in 2020 was a colt out of RIDOLFI (FASTNET ROCK).

He was the only BETTER THAN READY yearling to make the Magic Millions January Sale catalogue and was purchased for $80k. We had our eye on this colt as we also own the full-sister BETTER GET SET who is up to ¾ pace with trainer Steve O’Dea and ironically was only 3 lengths off EELLOH (BTR’s latest winner) at her last start back in April.
