Promising 4YO THINK ABOUT IT took the notoriously difficult leap from maiden to class 1 company in his stride at Wyong on Tuesday, winning the 1350m event with consummate ease.

The Joe Pride-trained gelding started an odds-on favourite after a dominant 1200m win on debut at Kembla Grange last month.

Jockey Rory Hutchings, who was in the saddle at Kembla, afforded favourite backers an easy watch on Tuesday as THINK ABOUT IT made light work of six rivals.

Some five lengths off the pace early in the race, the son of SO YOU THINK was still on the bridle when he sidled up to the leader at the top of the straight.

Backmarkers around a tight circuit like Wyong are not normally favourable propositions but THINK ABOUT IT’s class edge was evident as he pulled away for a 1.3 length victory.

Despite showing signs of inexperience, THINK ABOUT IT’s immense talent has carried him to victory in his two career starts.

“Once again he didn’t know what he was doing,” Hutchings said.

“When the penny drops, he’s going to be a really smart horse.”

Whether the gelding has one more run this campaign or is tipped out for a spring spell will be a decision left to Joe, but either way we have a very exciting prospect on our hands.

THINK ABOUT IT was a relatively inexpensive yearling purchase for Proven Thoroughbreds, fetching $70k from Newgate Farm’s draft at the 2020 Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne.

This year, Proven and Pride Racing went to $65k to secure a colt bred on a very similar cross to THINK ABOUT IT – the VANCOUVER x BOTTICELLI ANGEL 2YO. And like THINK ABOUT IT, he is shaping up like a mile/2000m horse.
