The classy GOTTA KISS headlines Proven Thoroughbreds’ runners in the week ahead.

The Steve O’Dea-trained filly steps out at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday, the first run of a preparation that will hopefully culminate in the Group 1 JJ Atkins – which has changed in distance from 1600m to 1400m this year.

GOTTA KISS trialled at Doomben on Tuesday morning, finishing a hard-held second under Stephanie Thornton.

BLACKBOOKER

SO YOU SHOP looked a good thing beat first up at the Sunshine Coast last week. He started a well supported favourite and was poised to strike in the box seat but the runs closed in front of him at the worst possible time. He eventually got out late and made up a stack of ground but not enough to reel in the winner. He’ll likely be short in the market next time around but will be hard to beat with a bit more luck.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners:

Doomben Wednesday April 22

Maiden Plate 1200m:

CENTRAL AMERICA

Steve O’Dea/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Showed ability in her first preparation, albeit without winning. She resumes here and can figure with natural improvement.

BM62 Handicap 1050m:

THE WILD ONE

Steve O’Dea/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Saved for this race after being entered to run in a hot class 3 on Saturday. Generally races well fresh and will be the class runner in this.

Sunshine Coast Saturday April 25

QTIS 2YO Handicap 1000m:

GOTTA KISS

Steve O’Dea/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Classy filly returning from a break. Has been excellent in two trials back and looks a strong chance to post another win.

QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate 1200m:

BETTER GET SET

Steve O’Dea/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Couldn’t quicken in the heavy ground first-up but was still far from disgraced. She’s been working well on the training track and firmer going here should put her right in the mix.

BM78 Handicap 1400m:

SIENNA ROSE

Steve O’Dea/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Has got too far back in on-pace dominated races in two runs back this preparation. Should be ready to peak third-up and will appreciate the spacious Sunshine Coast track.
