Two fillies and a colt were added to the Proven Thoroughbreds team by the conclusion of the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.
Whilst the sale’s numbers were up on 2021, it wasn’t as strong as the high benchmark set by the Magic Millions Gold Coast and Inglis Classic Sales earlier this year.
Joe Pride will put the polish on two fillies with deep pedigrees – ZOUSTAR x TIME AWAITS and THE AUTUMN SUN x LA VELATA – while the CABLE BAY x BODHI BLUE colt heads to the Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted stable in Brisbane.

Proven’s total expenditure at the sale was $380k. Our three yearlings were knocked down for $60k, $100k and $220k – neatly catering for lower, middle and upper tier budgets.
Both the ZOUSTAR x TIME AWAITS filly and THE AUTUMN SUN x LA VELATA filly will be paraded at our upcoming Joe Pride Open Morning on Sunday March 13. Details of that event can be found HERE.
NB Pricing includes GST, vetting, insurance, transport & all regulatory costs.
Lot 30 THE AUTUMN SUN x LA VELATA filly **POPULAR**
Shares from $3,375 inc GST for 2.5%
“Very excited to train a daughter of The Autumn Sun; arguably the best credentialled colt to go to stud in the last five years and this filly is all quality.” – trainer Joe Pride.
KEY FACTORS
- By exciting first season sire THE AUTUMN SUN – a 5-time Group 1 winning son of the breed shaping REDOUTE’S CHOICE. His racetrack record reads eight wins from nine starts and he remains the only horse in history to have annexed the Caulfield, Randwick & Rosehill Guineas.
- Hails from the family of Japan’s equine legend DEEP IMPACT, a multiple Group 1 winner who went on to become one of the greatest stallions the world has ever seen.
- Japan is widely recognised as the best producer of racehorses in the world and this filly’s pedigree is saturated in black type with 14 stakes winners on the page.
- The first three foals from the dam have sold for a combined $880k.
- Three of the most influential breed shapers of the modern era – DANEHILL, GALILEO & SUNDAY SILENCE – are in the first three generations of this filly’s tabulated pedigree.
Lot 285 ZOUSTAR x TIME AWAITS filly
Shares from $6,750 inc GST for 2.5%
“This filly has all the attributes I look for in a female sprinter; beautiful head and eye, powerful hindquarters and a purposeful walk.” – trainer Joe Pride.
KEY FACTORS
- Dam was a two-time stakes winner as a 2YO, including defeating males in the G3 SAJC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m). She was also runner-up in two Group races.
- This filly was conceived in the season following ZOUSTAR’s historic trifecta in the 2018 Coolmore Stud Stakes and therefore coincides with when breeders’ confidence in the champion sire was sky-high.
- Neater, more compact version than the ZOUSTAR archetype, which will give her every chance of racing as a 2YO and thus greatly enhance her broodmare value.
- ZOUSTAR with DANZIG broodmare sireline = MIZZY, HAUT BRION HER, MADAME ROUGE, ZOUSAIN, GLISTENING, THE ASTROLOGIST, ZOUSTYLE, ZOUSHINE, SUN CITY, INDIAN PACIFIC, PERSUADER, ZOUZARELLA, SOLAR STAR (50% of stakes winners).
- ZOUSTAR with 4m x 4m DANEHILL, the same as ZOUSTAR’s Group 1 winning mare MIZZY.
Lot 734 CABLE BAY x BODHI BLUE colt
Shares from $2,250 inc GST for 2.5%
“A well put together colt with plenty of similarities to our CABLE BAY stakes winner UNCOMMON JAMES. We unfortunately haven’t seen him at the races since due to a stable accident when he was being prepared for the Sydney spring.” – trainer Steve O’Dea.
KEY FACTORS
- CABLE BAY, a multiple Group-winning son of the widely influential INVINCIBLE SPIRIT (sire of I AM INVINCIBLE), has only had a handful of starters in Australia (oldest progeny are 3YOs) but already lays claim to a pair of 2YO stakes winners.
- One of those two stakes winners is UNCOMMON JAMES, prepared by the same trainers as this colt – Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted.
- The first foal from BODHI BLUE was a colt by MERCHANT NAVY that fetched $220,000 as a yearling in 2021.
- Broodmare sire NORTHERN METEOR is a valuable bloodline in the breeding world following his premature death as an 8YO in 2013. With 77.9% winners to runners strike rate from 366 starters, he was destined to become a champion sire and his quality is evident in this colt.
