A potential Cups campaign awaits STOCKMAN who resumes in Saturday’s opening Group 1 of the season at Randwick. The Winx has drawn a quality field of 11, seven of whom have succeeded at the elite level with the other quartet all placed in Group 1 company.

STOCKMAN falls into the second category after the run of his life in the Group 1 Tancred Stakes through the autumn but looks only an outside chance in this contest. Trainer Joe Pride has just opted for the lone trial to prepare for this 1400m WFA event first up as he ponders which spring path to head down.

Being such a mudlark, Joe will be very influenced by weather and track conditions in Sydney & Melbourne with both offering legitimate staying and middle distance targets.

A drier track at Wyong on Tuesday was no deterrent for the highly promising Pride prepared 4YO THINK ABOUT IT who stamped his class on a C1 field following an eye-catching Kembla Maiden victory.

The SO YOU THINK gelding and STOCKMAN will join a number of horses to be paraded at Sunday’s Open Morning at Warwick Farm. They include an attractive VANCOUVER 2YO colt bred very similarly to THINK ABOUT IT. See details HERE.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Gatton Friday Aug 19

BM58 Handicap 1400m:

MY SHAMANA

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Tackling 1400m first up but looks well placed back in country grade with Boris Thornton to ride. Won at Ipswich when fresh last prep.

Doomben Saturday Aug 20

3YO BM72 Handicap 1350m:

HANG FIVE

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Will appreciate returning to firmer ground and getting out to 1350m. Up to 59kg and not a big horse but been a model of consistency in 4 starts.

Randwick Saturday Aug 20

Group 1 Winx Stakes 1400m:

STOCKMAN

Joe Pride/Sam Clipperton

Comment: Will be doing well to trouble the scorer in this. A superior wet tracker in great order and now an experienced campaigner at this level but lacks fitness and needs further.
