Exciting 3YO PRIVATE EYE will be aiming to extend his winning streak on Golden Slipper day at Rosehill.
The Joe Pride-trained gelding will be chasing six straight wins when he lines up in the opening race of the meeting – the Listed Darby Munro Stakes (1200m).
“I don’t think we’re being too ambitious targeting a race like this,” Pride said at our open morning last Sunday.
“He’s a horse that has continued jump over the bar every time we raise it and he was impressive in a jumpout last Friday.
“He’s going to improve out of the run but he’s certainly fit enough to give this race a shake.”
The track is likely to be rain affected on Saturday but PRIVATE EYE is two from two on heavy tracks and should be afforded an economical run from barrier one.
Elsewhere, stablemate TORINDA will be looking to breakthrough at his third career start at Newcastle on Thursday while consistent 3YO HE KNOWS has been entered for both the Friday and Sunday Sunshine Coast meetings in search of his second career win.
The Magic Millions March QTIS Sale was also on this week at the Gold Coast where Proven Thoroughbreds and Steve O’Dea/Matt Hoysted Racing purchased two lots.
Lot 102 was a strong, precocious filly by WINNING RUPERT from the NOT A SINGLE DOUBT mare DON’T TELL MAMA. Proven went to $130,000 to secure this filly who was sold on account of prominent QLD equine nursery Kenmore Lodge.
Lot 145 was a stylish filly by champion sire of 2YOs BETTER THAN READY. This filly was acquired for $80k from Lyndhurst Stud and is inbred to DANZIG – like BETTER THAN READY’s top performing juvenile ALPINE EDGE!

BETTER GET SETwas thrown in the deep end last week when contesting the $500,000 QTIS Jewel but belied her odds to run a cracking fourth, finishing ahead of some smart types. The stable has always held this filly in high regard and it would appear she is starting to fulfill that potential. Should be hard to beat up in distance next start.
Comment: Didn’t have much go his way at Kembla last start but showed plenty of grit to finish 5th, beaten just under three lengths. Drawn wide the rail out here so will need some luck to break his maiden here.
Comment: Placed two starts back at Ipswich then only plugged to the line here three weeks ago. Both career wins have come on good surfaces so will need the track to dry out to be a chance.
Comment: Coming off an excellent second placing at Doomben in heavy conditions. Was a month between runs that day so should be close to his top for this.
Comment: Slow into stride here last start when first-up from a long break. Made up solid ground in the straight to narrowly miss a place. Wants all of 1400m.
Comment: Coming off an excellent second placing at Doomben in heavy conditions. Was a month between runs that day so should be close to his top for this.
Comment: Left a bit flat-footed dropping from a mile to 1300m last time. He was almost two months between runs that day so is sure to improve back up to his preferred trip.
