The Golden Slipper carnival is drawing to an end so hopefully we can gather some momentum before we head to Randwick for The Championships.

Saturday tip:

FORTRESS COMMAND (Rosehill R1 N5): I tipped this horse in my futures segment a couple of weeks ago for next month’s Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m). This is a logical stepping stone to that race, though I concede staying at 1400m is not ideal for this horse. He appears to be crying out for the mile but I’m hoping a wet track will somewhat offset that and being by SEBRING, he may well appreciate a rain-affected surface. I’m saving most of my bullets for the Champagne Stakes but I can’t let him go around on Saturday at his current doube-figure quote without having something on.

Futures tip:

SANTA ANA LANE (All Aged Stakes): Thought it was a huge effort for him to be beaten less than 1.5 lengths by Sunlight in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) when conceding 8kg to the winner. He goes back to weight-for-age now and I expect him to be hard to beat in both the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) and Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m). I recommended him for the TJ Smith Stakes a few weeks ago and I think he will be equally competitive in the All Aged Stakes at current odds of $15.
