The opening day of the 2017 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale proved fruitful for Proven Thoroughbreds with three bargain acquisitions.

With an obvious shortage of staying stock in Australia, Proven Thoroughbreds has made New Zealand a focal point in recent years.

Indeed, five of our last seven wins on the racetrack have been by NZ-breds, including THEWAYWEARE, THE GRANDSON, and TAHSIN.

Proven Thoroughbreds’ trio of purchases began with lot 196, a daughter of FIGHTING SUN from the FASTNET ROCK mare Head Over Heels.

The filly, knocked down for $NZ75k, has plenty of leg underneath her and moved well.

The second purchase, a colt by RELIABLE MAN from the ZABEEL mare Kadesa (lot 226), was a highlight. Proven Thoroughbreds was prepared to bid to a price significantly higher than the $NZ100k he was sold for.

The colt is similar in physique to our promising three-year-old THE GRANDSON and represents extraordinary value. The dam has produced three winners from four to race, including 16-time winner SCAPOLO (by BACHELOR DUKE).

Then four lots later (230), Proven Thoroughbreds secured an eye-catching filly (see attached photo) by RIP VAN WINKLE for just $NZ60k.

She is from unraced mare Karmann Ghia, a half-sister to three stakes winners. Her pedigree is brimful of prolific winners including PINNACLES (11 wins), MANZEAL (11 wins), LORD MICK (7 wins), RINGO (8 wins).

All three horses will be trained by John Thompson at Randwick.
