The old stomping ground of the Goulburn Cup and the second run back for veteran performer SIR MOMENTS are highlights of the week ahead for PROVEN THOROUGHBREDS. The Guy Walter trained MARKET UNIT (pictured) was our previous winner of the Goulburn banner race back in 2003.

The Joe Pride trained GAMBLESTOWN heads down the Hume Highway Sunday with barrier 15 to contemplate. The Darci Brahma gelding, a 4 time city winner, confronts the Cup following a series of recent consistent runs that have yielded a second, third, fourth and fifth from his last 4 outings.

Meantime in Qld 24 hours prior, the old champ SIR MOMENTS runs in the 1350m LISTED RECOGNITION STAKES at Doomben. A good gate and a strong recent trial victory has Steve O’Dea quietly confident that win number 10 for the 7 year old is not far away.

The O’Dea team saddles a trio of runners in the black and lime green this week beginning with handy mare SORNJA in the lucky last at the Sunshine Coast Friday night. Then at the same venue Sunday, strapping CHOISIR mare BLONDE BY CHOICE, attempts to break the duck in a 1400m maiden contest, her task rendered more challenging from a wide alley.

Also on Sunday another lightly raced galloper, THE GRANDSON, by the sire of the moment SAVABEEL, will be out to redeem himself in the 1600m C3 at Goulburn immediately prior to the Cup. Bitterly disappointing since winning at the same track 5 runs ago, the gelding carries blinkers for the first time and is also boosted by the engagement of Blake Shinn.

A couple of trialists from the John Thompson yard complete the week. SEBRING 2 year old BRING ME SHOWERS and another unraced horse, the 3 year old WATER LINE line up in heats at Randwick Tuesday.
