A relatively quiet week for Proven Thoroughbreds following a busy period that has produced 10 winners in 26 days.

Our latest winner, THE GOLDEN HIND, has been nominated for Saturday’s Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) after demolishing his rivals by 10 lengths at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday but could be saved for another race as trainer Steve O’Dea ponders the most suitable path towards the Group 1 Queensland Derby.

Stablemate SO SPIRITED (pictured) is Proven’s only other runner in the week ahead and is expected to go close in the 1350m Benchmark 80, also at Doomben on Saturday.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners:

Doomben Saturday May 11:

Group 3 Rough Habit Plate 2000m:

 THE GOLDEN HIND

Steve O’Dea/Ronnie Stewart

Comment: Staying-bred three-year-old with a huge amount of untapped ability. Annihilated a class one field but needs to keep improving as the bar is raised.

BM80 1350m

 SO SPIRITED

Steve O’Dea/Blake Shinn

Comment: Been gallant in both runs for the stable since switching to Queensland. Looked the winner a long way from home last start but was caught in the shadows of the post. Should be right there again.
