The QLD winter carnival moves to the Gold Coast for the Hollindale Stakes meeting this Saturday and Proven Thoroughbreds has another strong hand.

Last Saturday old warrior SCALLOPINI went within a lip of claiming the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) when first-up from a spell for co-trainers Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted. The 7YO gelding will head to the Group 1 Kingsford Smith (1300m) next start before tackling the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 11.

This Saturday, O’Dea and Hoysted will take the covers off STROLL (pictured), a promising 2YO filly set to run in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) – a race we have previously won with SESAR.

STROLL has won both her trials this time in and will hopefully get her chance to make an early QLD carnival statement, as she prepares for bigger races like the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm next month.

Meanwhile, Princess Stakes heroine CANADIAN DANCER and the in-form SECRET TALES line up in the Listed Bracelet (1800m).

BLACK BOOKER

SCALLOPINI has been a grand horse for many seasons but his first-up run in the Group 2 Victory Stakes was a career best. It was his first crack at weight-for-age against some top line horses and he was only pipped on the post by COUNT DE RUPEE. Think if he can hold that form he is a light weight hope in next month’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Warwick Wednesday May 3

QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap 1100m:

FIERY EXCHANGE

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd (a2)

Comment: Finds a winnable race after finishing 3.8 lengths from the winner at the Sunshine Coast last start.

Eagle Farm Wednesday May 4

BM70 Handicap 1400m:

THATFEELSBETTER

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd (a2)

Comment: Wasn’t afforded much room in the straight last time and couldn’t gain any momentum. Drawn wide here but that will at least give him galloping room and hopefully a clear passage at the business end of the race.

BM78 Handicap 1000m:

BETTER GET SET

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd (a2)

Comment: Talented mare with good first-up stats. Finished second to stablemate CONTEMPTUOUS over this track and trip when resuming last preparation.

Gold Coast Saturday May 7

Group 3 Ken Russell Classic 1200m:

STROLL

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Exciting filly kicking off a winter carnival campaign that will hopefully culminate in the JJ Atkins. Showed well above average ability in her first preparation and will be suited by 1200m first-up.

Listed Gold Coast Bracelet 1800m:

SECRET TALES

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Samantha Collett

Comment: Dominant winner at her last two outings and has a sense of timing about her coming into this race. Will appreciate some give in the ground.

CANADIAN DANCER

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Strong winner of the Princess Stakes last start and gives the impression she will see out the added 200m. Leading chance.
