After the prep from hell handy stayer LAST WISH (pictured) gets conditions to suit on Day 2 of the Scone Carnival in the B78 2200m event.

Just about everything has gone wrong this time in for the winner of 5 who even went to Melbourne to escape wet tracks only to have a deluge at Caulfield an hour before his race force abandonment of the meeting. A  last start second on unsuitable HEAVY ground at Randwick suggests the firmer going will be advantageous for the gelding who’ll be handled by trainer John Thompson’s apprentice Blaike McDougall.

The PROVEN focus then switches to the Sunshine Coast Sunday when another staying type REAL STING looks to return to the winners’ list in the 2200m C3. An enigmatic character who habitually misses the start amongst other quirks that challenge trainer Steve O’Dea, REAL STING has run placings at his last three runs so has his hoof on the till.

Useful sprinter COOL SEQUENCE is our last runner for the weekend and looks well placed with 58kg in the 1200m C2. Drawn awkwardly he does have gate speed and after three jumpouts is primed to run well first up provided the track is not too affected.

Despite no runners from Mon-Fri of next week we have a number trialing beginning with the smart 2yo filly BROOK MAGIC at Warwick Farm Monday along with SAVABEEL filly READABEEL. Then Tuesday at the Doomben trials, a quartet of PROVEN runners step out. The veteran SIR MOMENTS will have a tune up for Saturday week’s GROUP 3 BRC SPRINT, YES TONIGHT returns after a long layoff whilst 2yo fillies FRANCISCA and SETOKA are back for winter campaigns.
