Proven Thoroughbreds has made the most of a subdued market at the Magic Millions March QTIS Sale as the omnipresent Coronavirus grips racing.

The COVID-19 pandemic has heavily compromised racing with news coming through on Monday that all future meetings will be closed to the public – including owners. This has been deemed a necessary measure to ensure the health and safety of our participants.

Fortunately the QTIS Sale proceeded as normal on Monday and Proven was able to secure two yearlings, each for the bargain price of $20k. See below.

Lot 134 FURNACES x BOVESPA (Steve O’Dea)

Lot 159 SPIRIT OF BOOM x CLASSIC GUITAR (Steve O’Dea)

And if you missed it, last week we launched a new segment called In The Blood which provides a summary of weekly stakes results and how they correlate to the pedigrees of our 2020 yearlings. Read the latest edition HERE.

BLACKBOOKER

The penny may have finally dropped for AZOUSTIC after the four-year-old gelding broke his maiden in style last week. The son of ZOUSTAR swooped down the outside to win pulling away from his rivals. He appears to have appreciated a change of scenery from Warwick Farm to Goulburn and looks to have more wins in store.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners:

Hawkesbury Tuesday March 16

Maiden Handicap 1300m:

MACCOMO

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: Has been faced with rain affected tracks in his first two runs and been far from disgraced. A slightly better track here could see sharp improvement and looks to be crying out for this trip.

Randwick-Kensington Wednesday March 17

BM70 Handicap 1100m:

ROMALETTE

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: Resumes over a distance short of her best but has trialled well and is a more mature mare now. Look for her running on late.

Doomben Wednesday March 17

BM70 Handicap 1640m:

INVIGORATING

Steve O’Dea/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Racing honestly but is yet to place five runs back from a lengthy spell. Gives the impression she is looking for a mile now.

Class 2 Handicap 1200m:

THE BLACK TIDE

Steve O’Dea/Boris Thornton

Comment: Drawn the carpark but possesses electric gate speed. Narrowly beaten at her only run here last October and has won fresh.

Gold Coast Saturday March 21

Class 4 Handicap 1400m:

TOO HOT TO HOLD

Steve O’Dea/TBA

Comment: Got too far back and finished four lengths in arrears of the winner at Doomben on March 4. Races well at the Gold Coast so look for improvement.

Class 1 Plate 1400m:

GOLDNEALA

Steve O’Dea/TBA

Comment: Dominant winner here three weeks back and hasn’t taken a backward step since. Expecting her to be short in the market again.

Class 3 Handicap 1200m:

THE BLACK TIDE

Steve O’Dea/Boris Thornton

Comment: Nominated here as back up for Wednesday. Will get some weight relief and won well here four starts ago.
