Consistent gelding MACCOMO will be chasing a deserved Sydney metropolitan scalp this week.

The Joe Pride-trained 4YO has settled for minor placings at six of his last seven outings while his other start yielded a close-up fourth (1.6 lengths behind winner) at Canterbury.

MACCOMO returns to Canterbury on Wednesday in search of an elusive city win for his group of owners. The son of CHARM SPIRIT has never raced beyond a mile but gives the impression he will appreciate 1900m, especially on rain-affected ground.

Then on Saturday, stablemate INVINCIANO will appreciate a drying surface at Randwick, having been hampered by wet tracks this campaign.

In other Proven news, STOCKMAN has arrived at Kolora Lodge where he will spell for the next few weeks following back-to-back stakes wins which included the McKell Cup and Caloundra Cup. In what finished an eight-run preparation, the son of TAVISTOCK earned $232,750 in prizemoney.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Canterbury Wednesday July 14

BM72 Handicap 1900m:

MACCOMO

Joe Pride/Brock Ryan

Comment: First try at the trip but racing as though he wants further and has proven to be adept in wet ground. The Canterbury circuit should suit his front-running tactics too.

Gosford Thursday July 15

Class 1 Handicap 1600m:

HIGH TRIBUTE

Joe Pride/Regan Bayliss

Comment: Tossed the rider on the way to the gates at Kembla last week and was subsequently scratched. Not ideal going to a smaller track like Gosford but is weighted well and loses nothing with Regan Bayliss aboard.

Ipswich Thursday July 16

QTIS BM65 Handicap 1100m:

RICH LISTER

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Kyle Wilson-Taylor (a1.5)

Comment: Not seen since an unlucky second at the Sunshine Coast first-up in May. Won here two starts back and drawn to get favours in the run. Top chance.

Randwick Saturday July 17

F&M BM78 Handicap 1400m:

INVINCIANO

Joe Pride/TBA

Comment: Tried hard in the wet ground last start but couldn’t pick up like she does on firmer tracks. Could get a drier surface here with an improving weather forecast for Sydney.

Goulburn Saturday July 17

BM64 Handicap 1600m:

GREENSPAN

Kerry Parker/TBA

Comment: Struck an unsuitable soft ground last start and finished five lengths from the winner. Run prior at Warwick Farm was good and should be considered a chance here on that effort.

Sunshine Coast Sunday July 11

Maiden Handicap 1000m:

SALTOREE

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: First-up off a solid trial win at Deagon on Monday. Finished runner-up in two starts last preparation and gets her chance to shed the maiden tag here.
