Proven Thoroughbreds’ Jamie Walter has been busy trawling the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale in search of the next headline horse for top Queensland trainer Steve O’Dea.

It is a sale that has unearthed the likes of SIR MOMENTS, CANDIKA, RECKLESS CHOICE, SCALLOPINI and most recently GOTTA KISS – one of the leading chances in Saturday’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

More than 1000 lots will be sold during the bonanza sale which begins on Wednesday at 10am. Jamie and Steve came away with eight lots in 2019 and intend to be active again this year.

The Magic Millions raceday promises to be an exciting one for Proven Thoroughbreds with SCALLOPINI (pictured) and RECKLESS CHOICE joining GOTTA KISS on the float down the highway in search of a war chest of prizemoney.

BLACKBOOKER: GREENSPAN¬†has struck career best form this time in with John Bateman. The gelding won a Highway at Randwick two starts back before an unlucky second in another Highway last Saturday. He had his momentum halted at a crucial stage when the leader almost put him through the inside railing. Look for him in another Highway in a few weeks’ time.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners:

Wagga Thursday January 9

F&M Maiden Plate 1200m:

John Bateman/Blaike McDougall

Comment: Weakened to finish fifth in a 1200m maiden at Canberra on December 27. Continues to work like a horse beyond maiden class but is running out of chances.

Gosford Friday January 10

F&M Maiden Plate 1100m:

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: On debut. Sound in two trials this time in and can make her presence felt over this distance.

Randwick Saturday January 11

BM78 Handicap 1800m:

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: Looks ready for the 1800m after running a much improved race over the Randwick mile last month. Should be on pace and give the others something to catch.

Highway Handicap 1200m:

John Bateman/Billy Owen

Comment: Sound in two runs back from a spell and should be near enough to peak fitness now being third-up. Gets out to 1200m and has a valuable 3kg claim courtesy of Billy Owen.

Kembla Grange Saturday January 11

Maiden Handicap 1300m:

Joe Pride/TBA

Comment: Good run first-up Gosford when finishing less than three lengths from the winner. Can certainly improve second-up rising to a more suitable distance.

Gold Coast Saturday January 11

Magic Millions 2YO Classic 1200m:

Steve O’Dea/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Done everything right to date and comes into this (hopefully) at the top of her game. Hard to line up all the different formlines but the Rothfire form looks first class.

Magic Millions Snippets 1200m/Magic Millions Cup 1400m:

Steve O’Dea/Boris Thornton

Comment: Honest as ever last time when runner-up at Listed level at Eagle Farm last month. Should be competitive again regardless of whether he stays at 1200m or rises to 1400m.

Magic Millions Open Quality Handicap 1800m:

Steve O’Dea/Boris Thornton

Comment: Had to be steadied off heels last time out but ran home strongly to finish just behind the placegetters. Looking for this trip now and will be hard to beat with luck in running.
