Following a hectic week on the Gold Coast at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Proven Thoroughbreds’ focus switches back to racing with a handful of starters.

It was a week of unprecedented buying for Proven and trainer Steve O’Dea with 16 yearlings acquired for a total spend of $2.125 million.

Unfortunately, the Magic Millions raceday was a totally luckless event. Our 2YO runner GOTTA KISS was stuck on a float for 4 hours before arriving on course only 25 mins before start time, while SCALLOPINI was put out of play by the favourite breaking down in front of him. And RECKLESS CHOICE suffered interference at the start of his race which ultimately proved costly as he finished runner-up.

BLACKBOOKER: No blackbooker this week (we can’t include one just for the sake of it!)

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners:

Gosford Thursday January 16

4YO & Up Maiden Plate 1100m:

AZOUSTIC

Joe Pride/Christian Reith

Comment: Missed a run last Saturday so will be three weeks between runs here but wasn’t beaten far first-up over this track and distance. Can only improve.

Canterbury Friday January 17

F&M Benchmark 70 Handicap 1550m:

NICCONITA

John Bateman/TBA

Comment: Has suffered an interrupted program due to the poor air quality around southern NSW but gets back out to a suitable distance now and was an impressive winner two starts ago.

Rosehill Saturday January 18

Highway Handicap 1500m:

SHOW ME THE HONEY

John Bateman/TBA

Comment: Never got a crack at them last Saturday when bailed up behind runners the whole way down the straight. Should be something left in the tank for this and rises to a trip that should suit.

Eagle Farm Saturday January 18

BM70 Handicap 1500m:

TOO HOT TO HOLD

Steve O’Dea/TBA

Comment: Found one better last start when racing for the first time over a mile (a month between runs). Comes back slightly to 1500m and is racing in good form.
