A busy week for Proven Thoroughbreds with a trio of stakes runners and yearling inspections in the Hunter Valley.

The latest COVID-19 border restrictions has forced us to isolate in country NSW but we are making the most of our time out of Sydney, visiting all the major studs to inspect their Magic Millions yearling drafts before the Gold Coast sale starts on January 12.

Three of our main Magic Millions carnival aspirants – GOTTA KISS (pictured), SCALLOPINI and RECKLESS CHOICE – will have their final lead-up races at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

While at Randwick’s Kensington meeting on the same day, the highly promising PRIVATE EYE will be aiming for four consecutive wins and a potential start in the Magic Millions Guineas.

BLACKBOOKER

HIGH HANDED looks ready to break his maiden after a sound third placing over 1350m at Doomben second-up. On debut he finished fourth behind a subsequent Saturday winner so his form to date would suggest a win is not far away. Ideally would like to see him over 1400m next start.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Doomben Wednesday December 30

Maiden Plate 1200m:

RED RUBI

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Not much went right first-up at the Gold Coast. She was slow to begin and never saw daylight in the straight. Better for the experience and can win with the right run.

THINK GLORY

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Impressive winner of both trials this time in. Not much went right on debut last preparation. Can bounce back.

Class 3 Handicap 1660m:

DON’T DESPAIR

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Forgive run last time when a distant last at Eagle Farm. Won at the Sunshine Coast prior to that and has drawn favourably.

Nowra Thursday December 31

Maiden Plate 1200m:

SECADIA

John Bateman/TBA

Comment: Out the back in two city trials but ran through the line well. This looks a suitable starting point for this career.

Eagle Farm Saturday January 2

Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate 1400m:

GOTTA KISS

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Classy filly who has run home strongly in two runs back this preparation. Should be ready to fire third-up now.

The Buffering 1400m:

RECKLESS CHOICE

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Freshened since fourth in the Mooloolaba Cup (1600m). Likely to need the run coming back to 1400m but can figure if the speed is on up front.

SCALLOPINI

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Two eighths this preparation are much better than it looks on paper. Been crying out for this trip and track. Don’t underestimate.

Kensington Saturday January 2

3YO BM72 Handicap 1300m:

PRIVATE EYE

Joe Pride/Regan Bayliss

Comment: Promising horse shooting for four wins from five starts. Has won on heavy and looks to get a soft run from the inside gate. Hard to beat again.

Highway Handicap 1400m:

WAR DECK

John Bateman/TBA

Comment: Determined at Nowra last start and deserves his shot at a Highway. Drawn the outside but generally races better with a bit of galloping room. Wouldn’t want the track to be worse than a heavy 8.

Sunshine Coast Sunday January 3

Maiden Plate 1200m:

RED RUBI

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Not much went right first-up at the Gold Coast. She was slow to begin and never saw daylight in the straight. Better for the experience and can win with the right run.

THINK GLORY

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Impressive winner of both trials this time in. Not much went right on debut last preparation. Can bounce back.
