The show goes on in the racing world despite the threat of COVID-19, thanks in no small part to the precautions put in place by racing officialdom.

With almost every other sport on hiatus, racing has thus far been able to avoid the pandemic, which has provided a lifeline for all of racing’s participants – Proven Thoroughbreds being no exception!

We are fortunate enough to have our owners still watching their horses run and this week will see seven horses saddle up in the black and lime green.

Meanwhile, the latest edition of In The Blood is available to view online HERE.

BLACKBOOKER

DON’T DESPAIR did a good job coming back in distance second-up last week. He copped a couple of checks in the home straight but still found the line resolutely in fifth. Programming meant he had to revert to 1200m from his first-up success over 1300m but he’s ready to rise in distance now and put his best hoof forward.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners:

Warwick Farm Wednesday April 8

BM88 Handicap 1100m:

BROOK MAGIC

Joe Pride/Brenton Avdulla

Comment: Seems to save her best performances for when she is fresh and she’s more than a month between runs here. Given an easy trial during the week and gets her preferred conditions on a heavy track. Definite each-way chance.

Sunshine Coast Wednesday April 8

QTIS 2YO Handicap 1000m:

BETTER GET SET

Steve O’Dea/Boris Thornton

Comment: Won a trial at Doomben last month in readiness for this first-up assignment. Finished fifth behind Dusty Tycoon at her only previous race start and that form looks strong. With natural improvement she can win here.

BM68 Handicap 1200m:

THE GOLDEN HIND

Steve O’Dea/Boris Thornton

Comment: Not seen in almost a year due to injury so is likely to need this hit-out. He’s a stayer of some potential so worth following him deeper into his preparation.

Doomben Saturday April 11

QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate 1110m:

TRIP THE LIGHT

Steve O’Dea/TBA

Comment: First-up since finishing fourth in a hot 2yo race last November. Was a close up third in her most recent trial and is another filly expected to have taken natural improvement.
