The Steve O’Dea trained mare SORNJA racked up her second victory in the 1200m C1 at the Sunshine Coast Friday and in so doing recorded PROVEN THOROUGHBREDS 40th victory in 2017.
It’s been a grand year for Steve who sits 5th on the Qld Metropolitan Trainers Premiership.
SORNJA has been a model of consistency, her 11 runs yielding two wins and 7 placings after being purchased for $35k at the Magic Millions March Sale in 2015.
Back worse than midfield Friday night, jockey Paul Hammersley switched her wide on straightening and though hampered by another runner lugging out, the REAL SAGA four-year-old knuckled down over the final stages to win narrowly but decisively.
The grand old galloper SIR MOMENTS runs at Doomben today second up in the RECOGNITION STAKES. Following a sound 4th fresh from a decent break, the seven-year-old won a trial at Doomben after uncharacteristically leading throughout. From the good gate Steve expects him to be handier than expected and thus competitive over the 1350m.
