Handy stayer TAMARACK capitalised on a golden opportunity to win at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Joe Pride-trained galloper had only three horses to beat after final scratchings in the 2400m BM88 Handicap and duly got the job done as $1.95 favourite.

It was the five-year-old gelding’s first Saturday win and a deserved one at that, having won twice at midweek level and placed on five other occasions in Saturday company.

The result was an endorsement of TAMARACK’s affiliation with rider Jay Ford who has been aboard in three of the horse’s five career wins.

Interestingly, the last 600m of the race was run in quicker time than the 1500m BM88, won by Notio.

TAMARACK is Proven Thoroughbreds’ 34th winner for the calendar year and took his career earnings past $230,000.

Some shares remain in another son of REDWOOD to be trained by Archie Alexander – a two-year-old colt from ELLA MAREE (by RED RANSOM).

RED RANSOM is the broodmare sire of no less than 121 stakes winners, including this spring carnival’s Group 1 Underwood Stakes winner HOMESMAN.
