A steep class rise in heavy conditions wasn’t enough to thwart SNIPPY FOX’s winning form at Goulburn on Sunday.

Twelve days after breaking her maiden on a good (4) surface, SNIPPY FOX was faced with unabating rain in her return to the scene of the crime.

The Joe Pride-trained filly was also up against class two opposition, representing a significant jump from maiden company.

But after beginning well from the 1200m start, SNIPPY FOX was poised outside the lead and sustained a strong run to the line for jockey Jay Ford.

There was a late challenge from the odds-on favourite SOUTHERN APPEAL, but the result was never under threat as the daughter of FOXWEDGE held a neck margin at the post, enhancing her record to two wins from only three starts.

“Being able to handle rain-affected ground has really added another string to her bow,” Ford said.

“And it’s hard enough for a horse to go back to back, let alone from a maiden to a class 2, so she’s certainly on the right path.”

SNIPPY FOX was a bargain $35k purchase at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and is Proven Thoroughbreds’ 27th winner for the season.

The 2020 renewal of the Classic Sale commenced on Sunday at Inglis Riverside where Proven Thoroughbreds and Pride Racing combined to purchase a TIVACI colt for $75k (lot 152). See more details HERE.
