Proven Thoroughbreds purchased two yearlings by promising sires on the second day of the NZB Karaka Select Yearling Sale.

Lot 798, a colt by JIMMY CHOUX out of the winning mare Classic Blonde, was secured for $100k and will be trained by John Thompson at Randwick.

The colt is a beautiful, athletic type.

Proven Thoroughbreds was keen to buy into the progeny of JIMMY CHOUX for several reasons, none more so than the simple fact that he was an outstanding racehorse.

A five-time winner at the highest level, JIMMY CHOUX was unlucky not to add a Cox Plate to his resume after running second in 2011. He was also able to win stakes races from 1200 metres up to 2400 metres.

The other acquisition was lot 814 (pictured), a colt by RELIABLE MAN from Cross Rate, knocked down for $90k. The dam is a half-sister to Group I performers HE’S YOUR MAN and PERFECT HEDGE.

But like the JIMMY CHOUX colt, the real appeal in this individual was his sire.

RELIABLE MAN arrived in Australia from Europe at the end of his career but was able to claim the prized scalp of New Zealand champion IT’S A DUNDEEL in the Group I Queen Elizabeth Stakes in 2013.

Jockey Hugh Bowman rated the horse among the best he has ever sat on following the emphatic win.

This colt’s pedigree page oozes stamina and physically speaking, he looks a genuine staying type with a long rein and plenty of scope. John Thompson will also be the trainer.

Proven Thoroughbreds purchased another son of RELIABLE MAN, lot 788, on behalf of a private client for $160k.
