PRIVATE EYE’s rampant form continued at Rosehill on Saturday as the Joe Pride-trained gelding notched five straight wins.

Winning five consecutive races anywhere is a rare feat but for PRIVATE EYE to do it in Sydney suggests he might be a horse right out of the top drawer.

Having been balloted out of the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) on the Gold Coast, the son of AL MAHER started a $2.90 favourite in the final event at Rosehill and once again proved a class above his opposition.

Ridden midfield by Regan Bayliss, PRIVATE EYE showed an electric turn of foot at the 150m mark to score by a comfortable three-quarter-length margin.

With $240,260 in prizemoney from six career starts, the $62,500 Proven Thoroughbreds paid for PRIVATE EYE at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale now looks a bona-fide bargain for his group of owners.

Joe now plans to freshen-up PRIVATE EYE for a short autumn campaign, with the long-term target being the $7.5 million Golden Eagle (1500m) for 4YOs in November.

Meanwhile at the Gold Coast Magic Millions raceday, Proven’s trio of representatives – GOTTA KISS, SCALLOPINI and RECKLESS CHOICE – raced without a great deal of luck.

GOTTA KISS was buffeted shortly after the start, SCALLOPINI had to change course in the straight while RECKLESS CHOICE fell victim to a slow tempo. Each ran commendably, finishing 5th, 6th and 6th, but highlighted how much of a role luck plays in major races.
