Another three quality yearlings from the 2017 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale have been added to the Proven Thoroughbreds roster.
A colt by DECLARATION OF WAR, Champion Older Male in Europe and Great Britain in 2013, was the first purchase (lot 253) on day two of the sale.
He is from the MONTJEU mare Ledecky’s Girl, a half-sister to five stakes performers.
Purchased for $NZ70k, the colt is a great bodied individual with a strong hindquarter.

Proven Thoroughbreds then secured lot 342, a SAVABEEL filly from Polish (by O’REILLY) for $NZ140k. Polish is a half-sister to multiple Group I winner METAL BENDER.
The SAVABEEL cross with O’REILLY mares has amazingly yielded a Group I winner for every 13 runners and the top five performers are fillies. The strike rate for stakes winners to runners is currently 20 percent.
As well as having a highly favourable pedigree, this filly was a beautiful type with a deep girth and plenty of scope.

The final purchase was lot 423, a colt by boom NZ sire TAVISTOCK, knocked down for $NZ180k.
He is a strong colt with great length of rein and stylish head. He also walked well, unlike most of TAVISTOCK’s progeny, and is from the ENCOSTA DE LAGO mare Spring Venture, adding substance to his imposing frame.
His page is stacked with stakes performers and every foal to race is a winner. Trainer in-waiting John Thompson said the colt was one of the highlights of the sale.
