There are many indicators of a good racehorse, but there is one identifiable factor that unequivocally tells a trainer their equine athlete is above average.

Sure, the feed bin, temperament, galloping action, attitude and ability to cope with the rigours of training are desirable attributes, but those don’t necessarily equate to racetrack success.

In our experience, which spans decades and thousands of horses, the one elusive attribute you are hoping to strike is a horse that defies their pedigree.

Perhaps the most famous example is PIERRO. A son of LONHRO from a European-bred staying mare, winning the first 2yo race of the season en route to the juvenile Triple Crown was about as farfetched as it gets.

On a more fundamental level, if a staying bred horse can win first-up over 1000m, you are cooking with gas. Similarly, a sprinter that can stretch their speed to a mile and beyond, is likely to be well above average.

One horse that has surprised Kerry Parker (who trained another city winner last Saturday at Randwick) is the OCEAN PARK x FOREVER AND EVER 2yo colt.

A notoriously slow maturing breed with a preference for long distance races, OCEAN PARK’s offspring are typically not active until they are 3 or sometimes even 4 and 5.

This colt though is different. Not only is he FOREVER AND EVER’s first colt but none of his sisters (all 4 are city winners) had as much grunt and substance.

So, we really sat up in our chairs when Kerry sent through a recent video update on him, which you can watch HERE

If you’re scrambling to find a gift this Father’s Day, you could do worse than getting the old man a piece of this colt from just $2875 inc GST.

Below is another recent video sent from the pre-trainer:
