Only the wrong side of a photo finish denied Proven Thoroughbreds and the Matt Hoysted stable a winning treble at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.
The day got off to a less than ideal start when debutante CARPET RIDE got severely checked in the early stages of the 1000m 3YO Maiden, scuppering any hopes she had of winning.
But from there our fortunes turned around as another first starter – SEISMIC BOOM – emphatically took out the following 1000m 3YO Maiden.
Rory Hutchings, a newcomer to Brisbane’s riding ranks, positioned SEISMIC BOOM in the back half of a fast run contest and once presented down the middle of the home straight, the daughter of SPIRIT OF BOOM let down strongly to win by 1.5 lengths.

SEISMIC BOOM was secured for $90,000 from Kenmore Lodge’s draft at last year’s Magic Millions March Yearling Sale. Her debut win returned more than a third of her price tag ($37,750) courtesy of the QTIS Fillies bonus.
Then in the 1600m Class 5 it was another former interstate-based jockey’s turn to salute the judge as Daniel Moor expertly steered OCEAN ZAR to her first victory since April last year.
In her 10 runs between successes, OCEAN ZAR had not finished further back than 5th so it was most pleasing to see her consistency finally rewarded and no doubt the experience of a Group 1 winning rider aided her cause.

The 6yo daughter of ZOUSTAR has now earned the best part of $190,000 after going through the 2021 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale as the cheapest lot at $20,000.
OCEAN ZAR is Moor’s first winner for Proven and Hoysted since relocating from Victoria last month.
Moor almost made it a race to race double when TOWN CRIER loomed ominously in the 1200m Class 5 Handicap only to be bloused in the final strides by MINTAKA LAD.
Unfortunately, from barrier six of nine, TOWN CRIER had to use a bit of petrol early to lead the Class 5 field over the 1200m and that may well have been the difference in the 0.16 length margin.
Wednesday’s double elevated our seasonal winners tally to 7.
