This week’s edition of Tom’s Punt Hunt features a runner in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
Saturday tip:
TRAPEZE ARTIST (Randwick R6 N1): Take no notice of his first-up run. Yes, he missed a place as favourite but he struck soft ground and usually doesn’t fire until deeper into a preparation. Has trialled the house down since, gets back onto a firmer track, and excels at Randwick. With a white hot Blake Shinn aboard, I’m expecting only one result in this race and that’s a win for Trapeze Artist.
Futures tip:
SANTA ANA LANE (TJ Smith Stakes): Can’t figure out why this horse is still underrated. Over the last 12 months he’s clearly established himself as the country’s premier sprinter and yet there’s still four horses ahead of him in early TJ Smith betting, including Redzel who’s won two Group I races to Santa Ana Lane’s four. On a dry track in last year’s Group 1 Darley Classic, Santa Ana Lane beat Redzel – and all the others – fair and square at weight-for-age. If a dry track is dished up for the TJ Smith Stakes then this is the only horse I want to be on.
