For the first time in four years, Proven Thoroughbreds is relaunching a ladies only syndicate to race for the $750,000 Magic Millions Racing Women’s Bonus.
Identifying the right horse to target this unique incentive scheme can be a challenge (hence the four-year hiatus), but the stars aligned for us at this week’s Magic Millions QTIS Sale where we secured the BETTER THAN READY x SUMMER GLEN colt in conjunction with our Queensland trainer Matt Hoysted.
The colt (Lot 54) is specifically bred for precocious speed and physically has all the attributes to capitalise on the Racing Women’s Bonus which allocates $750,000 in added prizemoney between Magic Millions 2YO Classic and 3YO Guineas runners that are exclusively owned by women.
To use an example, our last ladies only syndicate, who raced GOTTA KISS, banked an extra $83,750 despite finishing 12th and 5th in the Magic Millions features. So, the beauty of the Racing Women’s Bonus is you don’t even have to place to share in the spoils!
It would be remiss of us not to also point out that in GOTTA KISS’s 12th placing, her preparations were severely hampered by a crash on the Gold Coast Highway that delayed her arrival on course to just 10 minutes before jump time.
Fortunately, that suppressed memory was but a blip in the GOTTA KISS journey. A $150,000 yearling, the daughter of NOT A SINGLE DOUBT earned the best part of $500,000 on the racetrack before on-selling for $800,000 as a broodmare!
The BETTER THAN READY x SUMMER GLEN colt we selected on Monday not only has Magic Millions bonuses awaiting him but also the lucrative QTIS prizemoney throughout the racing calendar.
The breeder Joanie Foster of Yarramalong Park has already retained a 10% share. Joanie and her husband Richard are also part owners in Matt’s recent QTIS Jewel winner HEARTS ARE BETTER as well as BETTER THAN READY’s current topliner PORT LOCKROY who is set to contest next month’s Group 1 Doncaster Mile.

Being out of a SNITZEL mare, this colt is bred on the same cross as his accomplished stablemate HEARTS ARE BETTER as well as THE ODYSSEY ($1.7 million earner).
BETTER THAN READY is a sire that has become synonymous with the Magic Millions Race Series – APACHE CHASE, SKIRT THE LAW, CHRYSAOR, ALPINE EDGE, HIDDEN WEALTH, THE ODYSSEY, BETTER GET SET (raced by Proven/Hoysted), TRIFLING, RAGING POLE and KING GUTHO have all won or placed at the Gold Coast’s flagship carnival.
Share prices start at $3500 for 2.5%. Note the price includes GST, the Magic Millions Race Series Fee, insurance, veterinary costs, transport from the sales complex and all regulatory fees.
