SCALLOPINI will look to end his Melbourne sojourn on a winning note when he contests the Listed The Sofitel (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.
The three-time stakes winner is afforded an attractive drop in class from the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) last month at Caulfield, where he finished an encouraging fifth after covering ground. The winner (MR BRIGHTSIDE) and last placegetter (AYSAR) of that race have since come out and franked the form by winning last Saturday at Moonee Valley.
Win, lose or draw at Flemington, SCALLOPINI is likely to make the long journey back to Queensland next week to prepare for a summer campaign which will likely take in another Magic Millions race.
Proven’s other runners in the week ahead include BETTER GET SET at Doomben on Saturday. The 5YO mare returns from a let-up in search of an elusive Saturday metropolitan win. With city placings behind the likes of BOOMNOVA and stablemates TUMBLER RIDGE and CONTEMPTUOUS, the daughter of BETTER THAN READY is certainly knocking on the door.
This Sunday at the Eagle Farm stables of Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted we are hosting an open morning for current and prospective owners. Please note the event is now at capacity. For safety reasons we have had to place a cap on the number at attendees. Fortunately, for those who have missed out, we will be holding another open day later in the year, likely around late November/early December.

BLACK BOOKER
RICH LISTER loomed like the winner at Ipswich last Wednesday but was unable to fully let down on the rain-affected surface, which was reportedly much worse than the soft (6) rating advertised. This mare’s record has revealed a distinct preference for good tracks and if she can get that next start, she’ll be poised to bounce back. An impressive Saturday city winner earlier this year, the 4YO daughter of RICH ENUFF gives the impression she is still on an upward spiral.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Goulburn Friday Sep 9
Class 3 Handicap 1600m:
MACCOMO
Kerry Parker/Jess Del Frari (a2)
Comment: Disappointing at Gosford last start despite having to do a bit of work early in the race. Ran well in a Midway race previous to that. Tends to mix form but looks well placed in this company.
Flemington Saturday Sep 10
Listed The Sofitel 1400m
SCALLOPINI
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Damian Lane
Comment: No luck in the PB Lawrence when caught wide throughout. Stuck to his guns bravely to finish less than 3 lengths from the winner MR BRIGHTSIDE who is shaping up like a major player this spring. Back to handicap conditions and should enjoy getting to Flemington.
Doomben Saturday Sep 10
Doomben Mile Open Handicap 1600m:
INVINCIANO
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: Never a factor in the heavy conditions over 1350m at Doomben last Saturday but the run served its purpose in preparing for the mile here. She has a terrific record on the quick back-up but needs the rain to stay away.
F&M BM72 Handicap 1200m:
BETTER GET SET
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Back from a let-up after finishing fifth in BM85 company on a heavy surface at the Sunshine Coast. Generally races well on the fresh side and gets a considerable drop in class here.
Sunshine Coast Sunday Sep 11
BM58 Handicap 1600m:
MY SHAMANA
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Beaten as an easing favourite at Gatton first-up over 1400m but was speared wide on the home turn after being caught behind some slow ones. Should appreciate getting out to a mile on a bigger track.
