Proven Thoroughbreds’ spring team will be bolstered by the anticipated return of Group 1 winner PRIVATE EYE on Saturday.

PRIVATE EYE (pictured) has accepted for the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick but with wet weather once again predicted for Sydney over the coming days, trainer Joe Pride could be forced to send the 5YO gelding south for the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.

Given the way heavy tracks wreaked havoc on PRIVATE EYE’s autumn campaign earlier this year, Pride is unlikely to start the reigning Epsom champion on a track any worse than a heavy 8.

While connections of PRIVATE EYE can only lament Sydney’s relentless rain, STOCKMAN’s owners are rejoicing. A genuine wet-tracker, STOCKMAN will get his preferred conditions at Randwick where he will contest either the Group 1 Metropolitan (2400m) or Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m).

Other runners in the black and lime green colours this week include UNHOLSTERED, who makes his debut at Rosehill’s midweek card after being withdrawn from a wet Bathurst meeting last Sunday.

BLACK BOOKER

DEEP CLEAN was impressive in a Deagon trial on Tuesday, circling the field to win with something in hand. The unraced CHOISIR mare has taken time to get to the races having only been broken in as a 2YO but the owners’ patience looks set to be rewarded come raceday.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Sunshine Coast Wednesday Sep 28

Class 1 Plate 1600m:

MY SHAMANA

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Went to a mile second-up and was found wanting over the last 100m. Sure to be improved fitness wise but needs to find a length or two to be in with a winning chance.

Rosehill Wednesday Sep 28

Maiden Handicap 1200m:

UNHOLSTERED

Joe Pride/Rory Hutchings

Comment: Debutant coming off a pair of sound city trials. Will likely go back towards the tail of the field from the very wide gate but expecting him to be running on well at the finish.

Randwick Saturday Oct 1

G1 The Metropolitan 2400m/G2 Hill Stakes 2000m:

STOCKMAN

Joe Pride/Sam Clipperton

Comment: Ready to peak fourth-up and will love the track conditions. Just needs his fair share of luck to be in the finish.

G2 Premiere Stakes 1200m:

PRIVATE EYE

Joe Pride/Brenton Avdulla

Comment: Top class gelding whose trials have been as good as ever this time in. Won over this track and distance first-up last preparation on a good (4). Won’t get the same surface here unfortunately.

Flemington Saturday Oct 1

G2 Gilgai Stakes 1200m:

PRIVATE EYE

Joe Pride/Brenton Avdulla

Comment: Never been down the straight and has been tasked with 60kg under the set weights and penalties conditions of the race. If he gets a decent surface, his class will take him a long way.

Eagle Farm Saturday Oct 1

BM75 Handicap 1000m:

FETCH

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Consistent mare looking for her fifth win in 10 career starts. Won over this course and distance two starts back in dominant fashion and appreciates her runs spaced which she gets here.
