Defending Everest champion THINK ABOUT IT spun his wheels at Canterbury on Tuesday ahead his first-up run on Saturday week.
In a 900m trial, the son of SO YOU THINK finished a close 2nd to CORNICHE in good time with smart sprinter KING OF SPARTA back in 3rd.
THINK ABOUT IT will resume in the G2 Premier Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on October 5. After a disappointing autumn by his lofty standards, we are looking forward to hopefully seeing the five-year-old spring back into form this spring.
Still on the Everest, and PRIVATE EYE is aiming for his third successive slot in the race after contesting the G2 The Shorts (1100m) last Saturday.. Off a slow tempo, he reeled off some slick late splits to finish hard in a lane that was wider than any winner all day.
Our best chance this week appears to be NAVAL TRADER (pictured), who lines up at Doomben’s midweek meeting in search of his 4th career win from 13 starts.
This Sunday September 29 we will be hosting our inaugural Matt Hoysted open morning at his Eagle Farm stables from 9.45am. An e-brochure outlining the order of parades will be published online by Thursday.

SIRE ON FIRE – THE AUTUMN SUN
Sired the Quinella in the G2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday and in the process unearthed two potential stars. Much has been spoken about AUTUMN GLOW, who is now undefeated in three starts. But the runner-up SNOW IN MAY clocked the best last 400m and 200m of the day.
BLACK BOOKER – FLYING BANDIT
Finished out of the placings in the Randwick opener on Saturday but our times analyst Nic Ashman says there was hidden merit to the performance.
“He clocked the fastest split of the race between the 400m and 200m but then came off the boil over the final furlong,” he said.
“Second-up at the mile in a genuinely run race, he’s peaked on his run. Follow next start.”
BET WITH NIC
Nic’s tips in this article now sit at 13 winners from 19 selections.
“I think PRIDE OF JENNI can turn the tables on MR BRIGHTSIDE this Friday night at Moonee Valley. Being a free-running galloper, she needs to be at her peak to use her best asset – barrier speed otherwise she just gets tired. She nearly got him the other day and I reckon that’ll change this week.”
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Eagle Farm Wednesday September 25
Class 4 Plate 1350m
NAVAL TRADER
Matt Hoysted/Nikita Beriman
Comment: Slowly away then over-raced last start before being held up momentarily at the top of the straight. Reeled off the best last 400m and 200m there when 2nd and gets the chance to atone here.
Sunshine Coast Friday September 27
Maiden Plate 1000m
OF COURSE
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: On debut. By Everest winner YES YES YES and has shown some ability at the trials winning one and finishing 2L off in his most recent hitout. Strikes a race that looks winnable but does have a wide gate to contend with.
Toowoomba Saturday September 28
BM78 Handicap 1200m
TOWN CRIER
Matt Hoysted/Ron Stewart
Comment: Caught wide two starts back then better last time on the Poly track at the Gold Coast when 2nd after clocking the best split of the race between the 600m and 400m. This tougher but having a good prep.
