A relatively quiet week of runners for Proven Thoroughbreds we are looking forward to seeing the covers get taken off a debutant on Sunday.
Pride is taking a conservative approach with promising 3YO UNHOLSTERED (pictured) by nominating for a 1200m Bathurst maiden on Sunday. The PIERRO gelding has shown plenty of ability to date but as is always the case with unraced youngsters, he will need to produce under the pressure of raceday.
UNHOLSTERED was an $80,000 yearling purchase from Fernrigg Farm’s draft at last year’s Inglis Classic Sale.
Our only other starter this week is HE KNOWS at Doomben on Wednesday. The 5YO gelding will be close to peak fitness third-up when he returns to the scene of his last victory seven starts ago.
Meanwhile, STOCKMAN has paid up the latest acceptance fee for the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 15 as trainer Joe Pride keeps his options open with the son of TAVISTOCK following a closing fourth in the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) at Randwick last Saturday.

BLACK BOOKER
BETTER GET SET appeared to resent the wet track at the Gold Coast last Saturday but to her credit, she rallied hard to grab fourth in what was a strong a race. Amongst the horses finishing behind her were stakes winners ME ME LAGARDE and QUEEN OF DUBAI. Can only improve second-up and would like to think she will be a good winning chance on a drier surface.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Doomben Wednesday Sep 21
Class 3 Plate 1350m:
HE KNOWS
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Angela Jones (a3)
Comment: Gets to his preferred track and distance following two sound runs this time in. In well at the weights after the claim and drawn favourably. Just needs to be extricated at the right time.
Bathurst Sunday Sep 25
Maiden Handicap 1200:
UNHOLSTERED
Joe Pride/TBA
Comment: Debutant of some promise. Hit the line sweetly in two quiet trials at Warwick Farm and is expected to make his presence felt here.
