PRIVATE EYE takes a step closer to the Group 1 Epsom Handicap this Saturday while promising stayer OCEAN TREATY (pictured) chases six wins from her last seven starts.
The Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m) at Randwick will serve as the final Epsom lead-up race for PRIVATE EYE as he looks to stake his claim on the $1.5 million feature.
This week the Joe Pride-trained gelding was allocated a featherweight of 50.5kg and will escape a penalty even if he wins this Saturday.
On the same day at the Gold Coast, OCEAN TREATY will look to build on her imposing record when she lines up over 1800m. The late maturing daughter of OCEAN PARK has made a habit of winning, being first past the post in five of her last six starts.
Elsewhere, KARAOKE QUEEN is set to make her debut at Eagle Farm on Friday while TORINDA gets his chance to break through at Kembla on Thursday.

PALAZZO SPIRIT made his first public appearance in a 2YO barrier trial at Doomben on Tuesday morning and looked the ultimate professional, cruising to the line under a strong hold to finish a close up second. It makes a such a difference for these early season 2YOs if they have ‘racing know-how’ like this colt. Whether he pushes onto raceday this preparation or the next, he is definitely one to follow.
Comment: Consistent sprinting mare who has finished in the quinella at each of her last five starts. Seems to relish this track and distance and must come into calculations again.
Comment: Excellent on debut when attacking the line over 1200m at the Gold Coast. If she can settle a bit closer here then she’s a genuine winning chance.
Comment: Slow into stride over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast and loomed briefly in the straight but never threatened. Did get onto heels late so suspect she should have finished closer but needs to improve all the same.
Comment: Never travelled second-up over 1350m, suggesting she wants every bit of the 1500m here. She was good first-up and should be considered a chance on that run.
Comment: Really motored home to finish third at Wyong last start. Was second-up staying at 1100m there and looks much better suited going up in trip and onto a big track. Wide alley some concern but will probably go back anyway.
Comment: Ran the fastest last 600m of the race and second fastest of the day when seventh in the Group 2 Theo Marks. Suspect he just found the 1300m a bit sharp second-up so will certainly appreciate going to 1400m on a rain-affected surface.
Comment: Racing in great form. The fact she could win second-up over an unsuitable trip shows she is still improving. Expecting her to be hard to beat rising to 1800m.
Comment: First-up. Finished within a 4.2 lengths of a horse called INCENTIVISE at the end of last preparation. Yet to figure in two first-up runs but looking forward to seeing him once he gets out to a mile and beyond.
Comment: Terrific return here when third over 1400m. Stays at this trip second-up which is some query but looks to have come back well and is worth following as he gets out in distance.
