This week we welcome back another one of our headline horses to the races in STOCKMAN.

A four-time stakes winner and $1.5 million earner, STOCKMAN (pictured) is set to resume in the inaugural running of the Alan Brown Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Whilst some midweek rain has boosted his chances, the 1400m is well short of his optimum trip so he will likely find some of his rivals a bit too sharp.

As for the remainder of the preparation, trainer Joe Pride is keeping an open mind as there are a plethora of suitable races scheduled during the back end of the spring carnival and summer months.

Also running on Saturday is last start winner CANADIAN DANCER at Eagle Farm. In what is hopefully a good omen, the Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained mare contests a $125,000 Open Handicap sponsored by Canadian Club!

Meanwhile the countdown to The Everest on October 14 is well and truly on as Joe Pride puts the finishing touches on our two charges PRIVATE EYE and THINK ABOUT IT.

BLACK BOOKER

HANG FIVE continues to race well without luck this preparation. In four runs back from a spell he’s finished 3rd twice and 4th twice, the latest being a 0.8 length defeat around Ipswich when doing his best work late. If he can draw a barrier and find a race with minimal speed, he should be able to put himself in a winning position.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Sunshine Coast Friday October 6

BM60 Handicap 1000m

SHOT OF WHISKEY

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang

Comment: Freshened since disappointing in a Saturday race at Doomben. Drops back to provincial grade and gets blinkers on which hopefully sparks a return to form that saw him win by 3.3 lengths here on debut.

Class 4 Handicap 1000m

THATFEELSBETTER

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Resumes with a solid third over this distance behind a handy type. Stays at 1000m but is a month between runs and has won twice at this track.

Rosehill Saturday October 7

Alan Brown Stakes 1400m

STOCKMAN

Joe Pride/Ryan Maloney

Comment: Resuming. Normally takes a few runs to hit his top and will likely have to go right back from a very wide draw. Look for him to be doing his best work late.

Kembla Grange Saturday October 7

CG&E Maiden Handicap 1500m

COMBAT CRUSADER

Joe Pride/Keagan Latham

Comment: Didn’t get warm on debut over 1300m at Kembla Grange, finishing more than eight lengths astern of the winner. Looked very green in the run home so can only improve here but doubt we can consider him a winning chance at this early stage of his career.

Eagle Farm Saturday October 7

Canadian Club Open 1400m

CANADIAN DANCER

Joe Pride/Jaden Lloyd

Comment: Impressive last start winner here in track record time. Drawn a touch awkwardly but is in the zone.
