A handful of good chances in Brisbane headline this week’s runners for Proven Thoroughbreds.
Last start winner OCEAN ZAR (pictured), as well as last start placegetters HEYOKA, TOWN CRIER and SHOT OF WHISKEY, will all feature for the Matt Hoysted stable at upcoming Queensland metropolitan meetings.
Our sole NSW runner for the week will be the Kerry Parker-trained OTONO at Kembla on Saturday.
It was a memorable weekend for the team with the old boy PRIVATE EYE recording his 14th career win while 3yo filly CHAMPAGNE LANE maintained her unbeaten record.

SIRE ON FIRE – HARRY ANGEL
STRETAN ANGEL’s victory at Caufield on Saturday brought up her sire’s fifth individual stakes winner this season. That puts him in equal first position with WRITTEN TYCOON on Australasia’s stallion premiership. His 2yos this season come from his largest crop since beginning his career at stud in 2019 so expecting his trajectory to continue for years to come.
BLACK BOOKER – CHAMPAGNE LANE
Ran a scintillating 57.48 for her 1000m BM58 victory at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday. That time was more than 2 seconds faster than the Maiden at the same meeting. She smashed standard time by 8L and her last 200m ranked 4th for the day. But the best part is she did all of this from the front. In the word’s of Nic Ashman: “She’ll be winning much better races than this”.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Eagle Farm Wednesday October 22
BM65 Handicap 1800m
ROCK THE SUNRISE
Matt Hoysted/Rory Hutchings
Comment: Made steady ground from the back over a mile here last time, finishing 2.4 lengths astern of the winner. Up in distance and down in grade gives him a good chance to return to the winners’ circle.
Class 5 Plate 1200m

TOWN CRIER
Matt Hoysted/Daniel Moor
Comment: Racing in great spirit but without much luck. Caught in the final hop in an identical race three weeks ago. Barrier one could be the missing ingredient in turning his fortunes around.
Doomben Saturday October 25
F&M Class 6 Handicap 1350m

HEYOKA
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Bursting to win a race this prep after four consecutive top four finishes, the latest in which she only got run down late after using up a bit of petrol early. Can certainly turn the tables and post a much deserved victory.
BM78 Handicap 1600m

OCEAN ZAR
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Broke a run of outs in winning a Class 5 handicap over this track and distance last start. Yet to produce consecutive wins in her 22-start career but looks well placed on 56.5kg.
NMW Handicap 1200m

SHOT OF WHISKEY
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Went too quick in front last time and the effort told late as he got run down in the shadows of the post at the Gold Coast. That followed another narrow defeat at Doomben. Finds a suitable race to go one better.
Kembla Saturday October 25
BM68 Handicap 1600m/BM64 Handicap 1500m

OTONO
Kerry Parker/TBA
Comment: Struck a fast run 1800m Midway last time and just laboured to the line. Appeared to resent being between horses there so if she can get some clear galloping room she can win this on best form.
Sunshine Coast Sunday October 26
Class 2 Plate 1000m

TAKE A BOW
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Still missing the start which again proved costly last time as she finished fifth of eight over this track and distance on October 10. At this point can only be taken on trust.
