Proven Thoroughbreds’ Everest triumph on Saturday is a true rags to riches story.
THINK ABOUT IT, passed in at auction, was secured privately by Proven for $70,000 in 2020. Fast forward to October 14 2023 and the yearling nobody wanted became an Everest champion!
His exemplary record now reads 11 wins from 12 starts for prizemoney totalling $10,979,175 which makes him the highest stakes earner currently racing in Australia!
And if THINK ABOUT IT’s success wasn’t enough, stablemate and fellow Proven acquisition PRIVATE EYE, snared his second Everest placing when finishing a gallant third. His prizemoney now stands at $8,871,810 after selling for $62,500 at Adelaide Magic Millions in 2019.
To see trainer Joe Pride and jockey Sam Clipperton reach racing’s pinnacle on Saturday was extremely satisfying. But as the enormity of THINK ABOUT IT’s achievement starts to sink in, the show must go on for our other horses with a busy week of runners ahead.
The Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained FETCH continues her Melbourne campaign in an 1100m BM78 at Caulfield’s feature meeting on Wednesday before stablemates THATFEELSBETTER, SECRET TALES and HANG FIVE line up at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
On the same day at Randwick, Group 1 placed stayer STOCKMAN will tackle the Filante Handicap (1600m) as he gets fitter for longer races.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Caulfield Wednesday October 18
BM78 Handicap 1100m
FETCH
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Damian Lane
Comment: Just travelled a touch keen when negotiating Moonee Valley for the first time last start but stuck on ok to finish fourth. Should be improved for the run fitness wise and is afforded a drop in grade from a BM84.
Randwick Saturday October 21
Filante Open Handicap 1600m
STOCKMAN
Joe Pride/TBA
Comment: Didn’t stretch out on a firm track at Rosehill first-up so any rain would be welcomed here. Unlikely to trouble the scorer again second-up but may improve if he can position closer in the run.
Eagle Farm Saturday October 21
BM75 Handicap 1400m
SECRET TALES
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: No luck on resumption at Toowoomba when disappointed for a run in the home straight. Has an excellent second-up record (three wins from four attempts) so don’t be surprised if she bounces back up to 1400m.
BM68 Handicap 1400m
HANG FIVE
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Racing consistently without winning. Would dearly love a draw that can see him settle closer in the run. Must be included among the winning chances.
NMW Handicap 1200m
THATFEELSBETTER
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Strong winner over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast last start and looks ready for 1200m now. His second to stablemate ENTERPRISE POMME when third-up over this track and distance last preparation is good enough to win this.
