Smart mare CANADIAN DANCER makes her anticipated return to racing in the Listed Tattersall’s Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Winner of the Listed Princess Stakes (1600m) last season, the daughter of VANCOUVER has been trialling impressively ahead of her first run in almost seven months.
Co-trainers Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted are hoping to use Saturday’s Tattersall’s Classic as a springboard into the $250,000 Gateway (1400m) at Eagle Farm on December 10 which offers the winner ballot exemption for next year’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).
Last Saturday, another O’Dea/Hoysted mare BETTER GET SET, put her hand up for summer feature races with a gritty win in the 1200m Class 6 Handicap at the Sunshine Coast’s metropolitan meeting. The 5YO is set to head to the Listed Just Now Stakes (1300m) for fillies and mares on the same day as The Gateway.
Meanwhile in Sydney, the Joe Pride-trained CHILLI JAM will kick off her second preparation in an 1100m maiden at Canterbury on Friday night. The 3YO filly is by in-form sire HELLBENT and has been fitted with three trials this time in.

BLACK BOOKER
MOUNT WARNING displayed marked improvement at her second career run when finishing a game second over 1200m at Gosford last week. The winner, a $400,000 yearling, overtook her in the final strides and looks well above average. Whether it will be this preparation or the next, this filly will shed her maiden tag and hopefully go on to bigger and better things.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Canterbury Friday Nov 25
3YO Fillies Maiden Handicap 1100m:
CHILLI JAM
Joe Pride/Regan Bayliss
Comment: Only start in her first campaign returned a creditable sixth behind subsequent stakes winner KIBOU in heavy 9 conditions. Looks to have come back well based on recent trials and might be over the odds here, albeit from an awkward barrier.
Sunshine Coast Friday Nov 25
3YO Maiden Handicap 1600m:
AFFECTIONATE
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Brodie Loy
Comment: Improved second-up to finish within 2.5 lengths of the winner over a mile at Eagle Farm. Comes back to provincial company and should be at peak fitness now but needs to discover the killer punch.
Gold Coast Saturday Nov 26
Listed Tattersall’s Classic 1200m
CANADIAN DANCER
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: Stakes winning mare resuming off some slick trials. Ideally wants a touch further on a bigger track but is going well.
