Carnival racing moves from Melbourne to Brisbane this weekend with Proven performers SCALLOPINI and BETTER GET SET beginning summer campaigns at Doomben’s feature meeting.

Queensland’s summer of racing will see more than $25 million in prizemoney be run and won, highlighted by the 2024 Magic Millions day in January.

Both SCALLOPINI and BETTER GET SET (pictured) are Magic Millions eligible and can lay down an early marker with strong performances this Saturday.

SCALLOPINI tackles the Listed Recognition Stakes (1350m) with an impost of 61kg while BETTER GET SET lines up against her own sex in the Listed Tattersalls Classic (1200m).

Another notable runner for Proven this week is the resuming ACCREDITED (Joe Pride) at Warwick Farm’s midweek fixture. The 4YO gelding is a commanding favourite despite giving away race experience to most of his rivals.

BLACK BOOKER

Two encouraging runs back from a spell have SLIPSTREAMING poised to break through next start. The daughter of CONTRIBUTER has hit the line strongly over 1300m and 1600m in her last two outings, and is bred to get further. Another race over a mile or a touch further next start would be ideal for this 3YO filly.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Warwick Farm Wednesday November 22

BM64 Handicap 1100m

ACCREDITED

Joe Pride/Rory Hutchings

Comment: Promising galloper resuming from a spell. Won on debut at Nowra in the winter before placing in a hot form race at Gosford. Very short in betting here but drawn well and 1100m first-up on his home track looks ideal.

Hawkesbury Thursday November 23

Maiden Plate 1500m

COMBAT CRUSADER

Joe Pride/Tyler Schiller

Comment: Doing his best work late last start despite finishing ninth of 10. Looking for 1500m now but needs to find improvement to figure in the finish.

Sunshine Coast Friday November 24

BM58 Handicap 1600m

BETTER YET

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Surrendered the front too easily last time and couldn’t finish closer than 2.7 lengths to the winner. Worth another chance and is proven in soft conditions.

Doomben Saturday November 25

Listed Tattersalls Classic 1200m

BETTER GET SET

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Stakes winning mare resuming off the back of two smart trial wins. Yet to win at Doomben in five attempts but has placed on three occasions and looks suited going to 1200m first-up.

Listed Tattersalls Recognition Stakes 1350m

SCALLOPINI

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Classy veteran having his first run as a 9YO! All indications are he is going well as he builds towards another Magic Millions campaign. First-up last preparation he carried 60kg in a Group 3 over this track and distance and was beaten less than a length.

Gosford Saturday November 25

Maiden Plate 1000m

IN FLIGHT

Joe Pride/TBA

Comment: Showed admirable fight first-up at Wyong, going down by three quarters of a length after enduring a wide run throughout. Drawn the rails here so should get her chance to go one better.
