The Joe Pride-trained ACCREDITED returns to action at Canterbury on Wednesday as he aims to graduate to Saturday metropolitan grade this summer.
Wet tracks and bad luck kept ACCREDITED out of the winners stall in three runs last campaign but a drying surface for his first-up assignment has the gelding set to start a firm favourite.
He is one of a quartet of runners this week for Proven which includes last start runner-ups ZATANNA and SECOND SUN from the Matt Hoysted stable.
With the final Group 1 of the year run and won in Melbourne, attention now shifts to WA where things are starting to heat up.
This weekend the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) will take place with the Eastern states represented by BELCLARE, DEMOCRACY MANIFEST and LIGHT INFANTRY MAN.
Meanwhile, our resident times analyst Nic Ashman is excited about the WA Guineas (1600m).
“I like this SEPTEMBER MORN,” he said.
“She has terrific acceleration and if she can extend out to the mile, they’ll find it hard to stop her.
“She might be the kind of horse to be competitive in the G1 Kingston Town Classic (1800) against the older horses.”

SIRE ON FIRE – ALMANZOR
Fast becoming a real sire of stayers. CRICLE OF FIRE was one of them winning the Sydney Cup over 3200m during Sydney’s autumn and then last weekend we had MEHZEBEEN take out the G3 New Zealand Cup over the same trip.
BLACK BOOKER – INDEFENSIBLE
Was poorly into stride on debut at Canterbury before reeling off some good late splits in a fast run race. Will improve a stack and might even appreciate a tad further next time. Stick with her.
BET WITH NIC
Times analyst Nic Ashman’s tips in this article currently sit at 16 winners from 25 selections. His tips are currently on hiatus but will be back before too long!
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Canterbury Wednesday November 20
BM72 Handicap 1100m
ACCREDITED
Joe Pride/Nash Rawiller
Comment: Resumes. Been given three trials and has the best ratings in the race. The issue is his map, which could see him three back on the rail with his main rival, YISKA, getting more room to move. With luck he wins.
Hawkesbury Thursday November 21
Midway Maiden Handicap 1300m
MOVER AND SHAKER
Kerry Parker/Jay Ford
Comment: Produced an ordinary debut at Kembla when beaten 13.5L. Did trial well leading into that so it was a somewhat perplexing run. Will improve with the experience plus the extra trip will be in her favour but likely to need more time.
Grafton Friday November 22
Class 2 Handicap 1610m
SECOND SUN
Matt Hoysted/Andrew Mallyon
Comment: Going well without winning but this will be the fittest he presents at the races this prep. In addition, this is the easiest race he’s contested after he comes out of a city race where they ran decent time. Winning chance but the wet track is a concern.
Sunshine Coast Friday November 22
Maiden Handicap 1000m
ZATANNA
Matt Hoysted/Ryan Maloney
Comment: Drops back to BM62 level after tackling an open race in town last start. Her sectionals last start indicate that coming back to 1000m will be to her liking.
