The biggest week in racing is here!

Punters and racing fans alike were treated to an equine extravaganza last Saturday with Flemington’s Derby Day coinciding with Rosehill’s Golden Eagle fixture.

It didn’t go to script for PRIVATE EYE in the Golden Eagle as a leader-bias track and slow speed conspired to defeat the Epsom winner. But in a pleasant surprise to our owners, trainer Joe Pride announced on Monday that he was keen to back the horse up in this Saturday’s $2 million Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.

The original plan was to send PRIVATE EYE for a spell but as the horse pulled up so well from the Golden Eagle, Joe decided to nominate for the Mackinnon.

Whilst we had no joy at Rosehill, Eagle Farm provided a thrilling result for connections of STELLAR MAGIC. The Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained filly prevailed in a narrow finish to enhance her record to three wins and four placings from eight starts.

The O’Dea and Hoysted stable has been in irresistible form, saddling up six winners from their last seven starters. The team has another two runners for Proven Thoroughbreds at Eagle Farm’s Melbourne Cup day meeting in FETCH and the resuming KYLEASE.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Eagle Farm Tuesday November 2

Class 1 Handicap 1000m:

FETCH

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd (a2)

Comment: Talented filly who didn’t have the best of luck first-up. Kept on the fresh side and stays at 1000m. Form around her looks strong.

Open Quality Handicap 1000m:

KYLEASE

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Always trials well this mare and this preparation was no different. Will be in this for a long way.

Kembla Grange Tuesday November 2

BM64 Handicap 1600m:

BOMBARDEO

Kerry Parker/Blake Spriggs

Comment: Ready for the mile third-up. Two runs back have been sound but needs to rediscover that killer instinct.

Ipswich Thursday November 4

Maiden Plate 1350m:

VANTAN EXPRESS

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: First-up since May. Placed in town on debut and then couldn’t pick up in soft conditions. Untried beyond 1200m but has been readied for this with three trials.

BM62 Handicap 1350m:

THINK GLORY

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Baylee Nothdurft

Comment: Dominant last start winner here and drawn to get a soft run. Consistent type who can go on with the job now.

Sunshine Coast Friday November 5

BM62 Handicap 1800m:

TRAVOLI

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Been cruelled by wide gates this preparation but remains consistent. This is his trip and will be at peak fitness.

Class 2 Handicap 1400m:

ENRIQUE

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Not sighted in two runs back this preparation so hard to recommend at the moment. Both of those runs were on good tracks and his form is much better on rain affected going so the track rating will be crucial to his chances.

Class 1 Handicap 1200m:

THATFEELSBETTER

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Baylee Nothdurft

Comment: Beaten as favourite in a messy finish at Ipswich last start. Still learning but has plenty of ability.

Flemington Saturday November 6

Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes 2000m:

PRIVATE EYE

Joe Pride/Nash Rawiller

Comment: Was back and wide in the Golden Eagle and was ultimately left with too much to do. Sectionals were outstanding and he’s racing like he is looking for 2000m now.

Sunshine Coast Sunday November 7

QTIS 3YO BM65 Handicap 1600m:

MERSEYSIDE

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Too bad to be true last time. Runs prior were very encouraging and looking for her to bounce back after trialling well.
