Short course specialist THE BLACK CLOUD has a golden opportunity to secure some black type when she contests the Group 3 Warra (1000m) at Kembla’s Gong meeting this Saturday.
The Joe Pride-trained mare has drawn barrier 8 of 10 for the $300,000 event however with substantial rain forecast, runners will likely be getting off the fence, as is usually the case at Kembla when the track is wet.
THE BLACK CLOUD heads to the race with a first-up record that reads two wins and two seconds from five starts.
On the same day at the Sunshine Coast, our Queensland trainer Matt Hoysted saddles up a trio of runners – NAVAL TRADER, CHAMPAGNE LANE & TOWN CRIER.
Last Saturday, ACCREDITED got within three-quarters of a length of winning the $1million Hunter (1300m) at Newcastle, beating all bar tough stablemate COAL CRUSHER. The Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday week now beckons.
Meanwhile, PRIVATE EYE has been confirmed as Ladbrokes’ slot runner for the $1million Supernova (1400m) at Pakenham on December 13. More on that HERE.

SIRE ON FIRE – STREET BOSS
Having won the Inglis Banner with CALAMARI RING and run a narrow second in the Group 1 Champions Mile with PERICLES at Flemington two Saturdays ago, STREET BOSS produced perhaps his most promising prospect of the spring in GREEN SPACES, a dominant winner of the G3 Spring Stakes (1600m) at Newcastle. Look out for him in the autumn.
BLACK BOOKER – ICONIC TREASURE
This was one of the better lasts you will see. Resuming in a fast run 1100m around Canterbury, he was never on the bit at any stage but kept in touch with the field and was doing his best work late to finish within 3.6L of the winner. He’s never previously been a factor first-up but has won two from three second-up so expecting sharp improvement when he returns to the races.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Canterbury Wednesday November 19
BM64 Handicap 1200m
INDEFENSIBLE
Joe Pride/Nash Rawiller
Comment: Lightly raced mare resuming from a break. She’s a big, strong type that may need the hit-out here first-up before bringing her a-game. Does have the services of Rawiller though.
Doomben Wednesday November 19
BM65 Handicap 1200m

TAKE A BOW
Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Broke a run of outs at the Sunshine Coast last start. Has her share of ability but rarely executes, mainly owing to her slow starts. If she can jump on terms, will be in the finish.
Kembla Saturday November 22
G3 The Warra 1000m

THE BLACK CLOUD
Joe Pride/Jay Ford
Comment: Smart mare resuming. Looks well suited at 1000m first-up and this isn’t an overly strong black type race. Will put herself up on the speed and is adept in the wet if the forecast rain arrives.
Sunshine Coast Saturday November 22
3YO Quality Handicap 1000m

CHAMPAGNE LANE
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Had to go back from a wide gate rising in grade and distance to 1200m last time and acquitted herself well on a very firm track that was playing to on speed horses. Back to 1000m at the Sunshine Coast now – the scene of her two wins.
BM85 Handicap 1400m

NAVAL TRADER
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Tough gelding coming off a strong first-up run over 1200m at Eagle Farm on November 8. Wants 1400m now and goes well second-up. Yes.
BM78 Handicap 1200m

TOWN CRIER
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Scratched a couple of times due to wide gates and firm tracks since winning at Eagle Farm on October 22. Now a month between runs which isn’t ideal but gets in well at the weights after the apprentice’s claim.
Gold Coast Saturday November 22
3YO Maiden Plate 1000m

HIT THE SWITCH
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Resuming. Fitted with two recent trials, the latest of which was a close-up third at Doomben. Indicated ability in two starts during initial preparation. With natural improvement, can win this.
