Newcastle will play host to Sydney metropolitan racing this Saturday and Proven Thoroughbreds will be armed with one of the leading chances in the meeting’s main event – the $1million Hunter (1300m).

ACCREDITED, narrowly beaten at Randwick on Melbourne Cup day earlier this month, will be looking to go one better in the lucrative Group 2 event for which he is on the third line of betting at $6.50.

Andrew Adkins has been engaged to ride on 54.5kg, with the pair to jump from barrier three in the capacity field of 16.

On the same day at Doomben, SHOT OF WHISKEY chases an overdue win following three consecutive runner-up finishes while TOWN CRIER can post his seventh career victory in the Class 6 Plate.

Proven’s other runners this week are scheduled for Friday, with ICONIC TREASURE set to resume at the first Canterbury night meeting for the season and TINTAURA heading up to the Sunshine Coast looking to break her maiden.

SIRE ON FIRE – HELLBENT

Sired a lucrative stakes double at Rosehill last Saturday with VIVY AIR taking out the $2million Five Diamonds (1800m) and REVENGEANCE booking his place in the Golden Slipper with victory in the $1million Golden Gift (1100m). BAUHINIA almost made it a stakes treble at the meeting when finishing runner-up in the Group 2 Hot Danish Stakes (1400m) while his flagship horse MAGIC TIME was pipped on the wire in the Group 1 Champions Sprint (1200m) down the Flemington straight.

BLACK BOOKER – NAVAL TRADER

Doubt he was suited by the Firm (2) track on resuming at Eagle Farm last Saturday but still clocked the sixth fastest final 1000m for the entire meeting when finishing 4th in the 1200m BM85. He’s only finished out of the money once in five second-up runs which sets him up well for a 1300m/1400m contest next start.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Canterbury Friday November 14

BM78 Handicap 1100m

ICONIC TREASURE

Kerry Parker/Jay Ford

Comment: Resuming. Normally takes a run or two to come to hand but has trialled up well and is versatile in terms of his racing pattern. Each-way.

Sunshine Coast Friday November 14

Maiden Handicap 1600m

TINTAURA

Matt Hoysted/Daniel Moor

Comment: Gets to a mile for the first time following three runs back this preparation, the latest of which she was beaten more than 3 lengths over 1350m on heavy (9). Her Group 1 winning dam was successful up to 2400m so one would think she will appreciate this distance rise.

Newcastle Saturday November 15

G2 The Hunter 1300m

ACCREDITED

Joe Pride/Andrew Adkins

Comment: Bloused in the final hop at Randwick on Cup day off only one trial on soft conditions. Had a few things against him there and still nearly won. Slightly unorthodox heading back to the races 10 days off a first-up run but this has been a long term plan and he plunges 5kg in weight.

Doomben Saturday November 15

NMW Handicap 1110m

SHOT OF WHISKEY

Matt Hoysted/Daniel Moor

Comment: Bursting to win after three consecutive 2nds where he has been beaten a combined margin of only 1.2 lengths. Finally drawn a low barrier which may prove the difference in his quest for a deserved win.

Class 6 Plate 1200m

TOWN CRIER

Matt Hoysted/Corey Sutherland (a3)

Comment: Scratched from last Saturday due to the Firm (2) track so not an ideal set up here. Particularly from a wide gate and under the set weights conditions of the race so will need every bit of 3kg claim by apprentice Corey Sutherland. In his favour is he’s a last start winner and is yet to run a bad race this preparation.
