STOCKMAN reunites with Sam Clipperton on Saturday at Randwick as the Joe Pride-trained stayer looks to recapture winning form.
STOCKMAN was an unlucky fourth in the Listed Lord Mayors Cup (2000m) last Saturday at Rosehill and is afforded an ideal drop in class this weekend.
Clipperton’s record on the gelding reads 6:2-2-0 while the distance rise to 2400m will also be advantageous.
Proven Thoroughbreds and the Pride stable will be represented by two other runners at the meeting – the consistent SNIPPY FOX and the resuming INVINCIANO. Both mares are in good order and have previously tasted success at Randwick.
Proven’s Queensland winter carnival team will be on a brief hiatus this Saturday, with SCALLOPINI due to resume in next Saturday’s Group 2 Moreton Cup (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

It wasn’t hard to miss the run of RICH LISTER at the Sunshine Coast last Sunday. The 3YO filly was held up for a run at the top of the straight and had to switch back to inferior going on the inside part of the track. She still managed to finish second while the winner had the benefit of an uninterrupted run down the outside. Considering she was first-up over 1200m, expecting her to take significant improvement going into her second-up run.
Comment: Gallant in two runs back this preparation and looks ready third-up now. Has to overcome the outside gate at Canterbury but deserves a crack in town.
Comment: Got a mile back in the Lord Mayors Cup last Saturday and really motored home late despite having to change course on multiple occasions. Should have finished closer than fourth there and looks to get this chance to recapture winning form back in grade.
Comment: Classy mare resuming off the back of two solid trials on her home track at Warwick Farm. Usually takes a couple of runs to come to hand and better suited up in distance. Can still run a bold race fresh.
Comment: Left a bit flat footed first-up around Wyong. Rider said she didn’t handle the tight turning track. Gets back to the open spaces of Kembla where she has finished second to MR GEE – since run fourth in a Group 3.
Comment: Coming off a much improved run here a fortnight ago where he held on for third after doing a bit of work early. Looking for more improvement again.
