A seasoned campaigner and promising three-year-old filly are among Proven Thoroughbreds’ runners in the week ahead.
Rising six-year-old gelding ARGENT D’OR (pictured) will step out for his 30th start when he lines up over the 1000m at Randwick on Saturday. The son of SEBRING was a narrow runner-up over the same track and distance on Anzac Day.
Meanwhile, another Joe Pride trainee, INVINCIANO, will chase back-to-back wins in a 1400m Class 1 Showcase event at Sunday’s Nowra Cup meeting. The filly was a dominant winner at Kembla Grange on May 14 following two luckless runs.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners:
Randwick Saturday May 25
BM78 1000m:
Joe Pride/Jay Ford
Comment: Ran on boldly from the back to just miss here on Anzac Day. Kept fresh for this event which should suit and is yet to run a bad race at Randwick in seven starts.
Eagle Farm Saturday May 25
Class 6 1400m:
Steve O’Dea/Corey Brown
Comment: Has drawn the car park in each of his three Queensland runs but performed meritoriously on every occasion. Gets blinkers back on which could spark to small amount of improvement needed to break through for a deserved win.
Gosford Saturday May 25:
Maiden 1100m:
Joe Pride/Chad Lever
Comment: Not seen since beaten five lengths on debut at Randwick seven months ago. Latest trial was excellent, winning an 800m heat at Warwick Farm.
BM64 1000m:
John Bateman/Nick Heywood
Comment: Strong winner in first run for new stable last month. Will likely be close to the top of the weights but is a proven weight-carrier and won impressively on debut at this track.
Nowra Sunday May 26:
Country Maiden Showcase Plate 1600m:
John Bateman/Shaun Guymer
Comment: Has placed in only two runs to date and is sure to appreciate getting out to a mile. A bit of rain could be to his advantage as well.
BM64 1200m:
Joe Pride/Jay Ford
Comment: Over-raced but still proved much too good for her opposition last start at Kembla, winning by a comfortable 1.8 lengths. That win was overdue after racing without luck in previous two outings. Can go on with the job here.
