A trio of runners on Saturday heralds what will be a quiet week to follow. Quality filly CANDIKA heads our runners at Doomben as she attempts to continue her consistent STAKES company form in the GROUP 2 ROSES. Confronting 2000m for the first time on a significantly affected track at the back end of a long preparation will be a challenge for the daughter of SEBRING. However a good draw and the set weights conditions of the race against her own age and sex gives this terrific filly a definite chance.

The grand old warrior SIR MOMENTS can’t remember the last time he was in a race with just a kilo above the limit. Just 57.5kg is all he’ll be carrying as the 6yo looks to erase memories of his uncharacteristic last placing a month ago in the GROUP 3 BRC Sprint.

Trainer John Thompson has elected to keep BLANCO CARA a home for a race at Newcastle tomorrow rather than having to deal with the long trip to Qld for the ROSES. After an eye-catching 5th in the GOLD COAST BRACELET, she’s beautifully placed in a C1 & Maiden Plate of 2340m. The Thompson stable sends out 7 trialists for PROVEN at Hawkesbury Monday….ANKLE TAP, BOSTON BLUES, CHOUXTORIAL, GREENSPAN, CAPE COLADA, ZEDFORCE and WATER LINE.

Proven’s frustrating run of landing in the placegetters’ stall continued at Grafton Friday with both SORNJA and COOL SEQUENCE finishing second whilst REAL STING ran his fourth consecutive placing with a 3rd in the 2200m event.
