Proven Thoroughbreds will be shooting for an interstate stakes double on Saturday as the widespread rain begins to ease.

Rain has lashed Australia’s east coast in the last week which has caused wholesale changes to racing fixtures but fortunately the forecast is relatively positive which will allow upcoming race meetings to proceed as scheduled.

The Joe Pride-trained STOCKMAN continues his Sydney Cup campaign in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The son of TAVISTOCK will get his preferred track conditions and was a winner over the course and distance last year.

Meanwhile stablemate INVINCIANO (pictured) heads south to Melbourne in search of a firm track. Kerrin McEvoy has been booked to partner the mare in the Group 3 Matron Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.

Our Saturday team will also include CONTEMPTUOUS for Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted at Eagle Farm. The 5YO entire looks well placed to claim his seventh win from just 12 starts.

This Sunday March 13 our Joe Pride Open Morning will be held at the Inglis Riverside complex. A wide selection of our Sydney-based yearlings, including our three most recent purchases from the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale, will be paraded. Clients, newcomers, friends and family are all welcome. For an early look, follow the link to our interactive information package HERE.

BLACKBOOKER

COME CLEAN was an eye-catching fourth first-up at the Sunshine Coast last week. Faced with a soft (7) over 1200m, the filly did a good job to be beaten only three-quarters of a length and appears to have come back a stronger horse. Think a similar effort next run would see her go close to winning.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Ipswich Wednesday March 9

Class 2 Plate 1100m:

SALTOREE

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd

Comment: Has finished just behind the placegetters in two runs back this campaign. Should be ready to peak now and gives the impression she will handle wet ground.

BM65 Handicap 1100m:

TRIP THE LIGHT

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd

Comment: Beaten in a narrow three-way go at Ipswich last time. Has performed well on rain-affected tracks in the past and can figure in the finish again if she gets her own way in front.

BM65 Handicap 1100m:

DON’T DESPAIR

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Excellent run first-up in unsuitable conditions. Has trained on well and should get a favourable run from the barrier.

Goulburn Friday March 11

3YO Maiden Plate 1200m:

STANDOVER MAN

Joe Pride/Rory Hutchings

Comment: On debut. Has been sound in two trials for a horse likely looking for a trip. If the early speed is strong, he will be running on late.

Rosehill Saturday March 12

Group 3 Sky High Stakes 2000m:

STOCKMAN

Joe Pride/Sam Clipperton

Comment: Back out to his preferred trip after being far from disgraced at weight-for-age. Wet track is also a big plus for him.

Flemington Saturday March 12

Group 3 Matron Stakes 1600m:

INVINCIANO

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Kerrin McEvoy

Comment: Finally gets onto a drier track after Sydney’s big wet. Is clearly more effective on this ground and if she can get her own way in front here will be hard to catch.

Eagle Farm Saturday March 12

Open Handicap 1200m

CONTEMPTUOUS

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd

Comment: Shooting for four on the trot. Has won twice first-up will be aided by the inside draw.

Gold Coast Saturday March 12

QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate 900m:

FIERY EXCHANGE

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Resuming. Trialled well recently for this and looks to have taken natural improvement from her first preparation.
