Proven Thoroughbreds’ pin-up horse PRIVATE EYE is all set to contest Saturday’s Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill while our Queensland team will be chasing some lucrative QTIS bonuses at the Gold Coast Jewel meeting.
Following his slashing third in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m), the Joe Pride-trained PRIVATE EYE takes on some of the best weight-for-age horses in the country in the $1 million George Ryder, a race that will serve as the 4YO gelding’s final lead-up to the $3 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) back at Randwick next month.
Also representing Proven on Saturday will be RICH LISTER, HE KNOWS and DON’T DESPAIR at the Gold Coast Jewel fixture. The Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted trio form part of a seven-strong team for the stable aiming to plunder almost $3 million worth of prizemoney.
On the sales front, Proven has been active at the Magic Millions Adelaide Sale, where coincidentally, PRIVATE EYE (now a $1.6 million earner) was sourced for just $62.5k. Make sure to check out our available horses page for new sales acquisitions as they happen.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Eagle Farm Wednesday March 16
QTIS 3YO BM65 Handicap 1000m:
KARAOKE QUEEN
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: First-up. Won impressively on debut here before finishing fifth in a hot class 1 race. Has won a trial this time in but will need luck from a wide gate.
Ipswich Thursday March 17
Class 3 Plate 800m:
TRIP THE LIGHT
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Short course specialist with mixed form this preparation. Doubt she was in the best part of the track last time when overrun late at 1000m. Has only missed a place once in seven starts over 800m.
Gold Coast Saturday March 19
F&M BM72 Handicap 1200m:
RICH LISTER
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd
Comment: Game fourth when a month between runs due to washed out meetings. Should be near enough to peak fitness now and a repeat of her first-up win at Doomben would see her go very close here.
CG&E BM72 Handicap 1200m:
HE KNOWS
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd
Comment: Resumed on the Sunshine Coast polytrack earlier this month and was a fast-finishing second over 1100m. Out to 1200m suits and gets in well at the weights.
BM75 Handicap 1800m:
DON’T DESPAIR
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Blinkers went on second-up and he went a bit fierce in front before tiring over the concluding stages, though only beaten 1.7 lengths. Ready for 1800m now and has a good winning record.
Rosehill Saturday March 19
Group 1 George Ryder Stakes 1500m:
PRIVATE EYE
Joe Pride/Regan Bayliss
Comment: Excellent run first-up in the Canterbury Stakes. Recorded slick late splits as he usually does and has bounced out of the run. Drawn to do no work and if he can settle a touch closer a will be a winning chance.
Sunshine Coast Sunday March 20
F&M Class 2 Handicap 1200m:
SECRET TALES
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: Didn’t come up last preparation after showing significant promise in her 2YO season. Trials this time in have been good so hoping she can rediscover her best form in what looks a winnable race first-up.
